We stayed for 5 nights at Crocbridge, we travelled with anothe couple from the UK. The location of the lodge is fantastic, right on the border to Kruger and the Crocodile River, during our stay we regularly watched up to 8 hippos cavorting in the river and a herd of elephants would come right up to the fence. We stayed in the river view apartments so we could sit on our patio and watch the action. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom more than adequate, there is also a small kitchenette which is ideal for making a quick breakfast as the lodge is self catering. Actually its not quite sc as they operate a 'bring and braii' policy for the evening meal where they fire up the braii and then you bring what you want to cook on it and then help yourself to salad, potato and freshly baked bread. Its and excellent concept that seems to work very well. The staff are all very friendly and helpful as are the owners. We've stayed at other places in the park including one pretty luxurious resort, Crocbridge is not one of these resorts and doesnt try to be, however we paid a fifth of the price of our earlier stay to see the same breeds of animal, in fact we saw more here than we did at Sabi Sands so if its 5* pampered luxury you want pay the extra, if you are more interested in animal watching in surroundings that are still great (with a nice pool) then save your money and stay here. Kruger itself is very user friendly, it costs around £20 per adult for a day pass and you can self drive, we saw loads including lion, hyena, elephant, zebra, giraffe. We were blocked on the road by a group of 4 rhino and also saw the rare wild dog, in fact a whole pack of them. We also did some guided safaris, the first one being the sunrise tour where you get access to the park at 4am (!) and drive around until about 8 in a high vehicle. We did this on our first morning, the first animal we saw after 5 minutes was a male lion walking along the road past us. Although good this was not up to the standard of other safaris we'd been on as as many people as possible are put in to a vehicle and the commentary is not as good. We also did two days private all day safari organised by the camp with another company, the quality of this was much higher, we learned a great deal from Dylan our guide and even booked a second day where just about our final sighting was a leopard that completed our 'Big 5'. I would like to feed back a bit further on this though, although this company were great I think that Croc Bridge could work with them, and Sanparks possibly to provide a slightly better experience, to explain, we were on safari from 0510 until at least 1530 sometimes later, we have been on safari in several countries and have always found that by around 0930am the animals are resting and whilst there is then time to do breakfast and lunch the sightings dry up considerably until around 4-5pm, Dylan was a brilliant guide and you can still see zebra, giraffe and elephant but I think that the lodge could really do with putting together a sunrise and a sunset tour maybe for around half or even two thirds of the price of the day tour which would then give people a chance to relax between drives before heading out again as seems to be the norm elsewhere. This is only constructive feedback and should not be taken as negative comment as the place is brilliant and we wouldnt hesitate to come back.
