Charming place, great people and amazing safari. We saw all the BIG FIVE. The elefant ride with Jabulani was a unique experience. Our ranger took us to many different spots in Kapama area. The food and the wine list were reaaly good.

Room Tip: Big and very south african style.

Camp Jabulani is the place to stay when visiting this area. It is very comfortable and the staff are all terrific. The only comment I have is that the dinner portions are about 1/3rd too small. I make this comment as it was the only thing that could be improved upon. The food quality was the very best, but there was just not quite enough of it. The breakfast portions were great. I only state this as it is the ONLY thing that can be approved upon.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this review. Although Camp Jabulani is probably the most beautiful and intimate lodge I have ever visited, with an amazing team I felt that our guide Michael was lacking. Everything about our safari was fake. We would drive around casually enjoying nature and then you could hear Michael shouting over the 2 way radio and then we would zoom of into a certain direction hitting every bump along the way untill we enter an animal sighting. We would sit there for about 10 min listening to him mumble on and on. Leaving the sighting with Michael screaming over the 2 way we would rush into a next sighting. This all made this safari experience completely fake and felt like a glorified Disney Animal Kingdom. After about 2.5 hours we would rush back to camp and our guide would disapear. Doing this for 4 days got really tiring. On one particular morning we could smell a hint of alcohol on his breath. I spoke to other guest in the camp about it and none of them experienced this with their guides. Is this lack of passion or just lack of proper training from our guide? Despite our unprofessional guide the rest of the camp was a wonderland of peace and tranquility. The elephants is a definate bonus and the work they do for these magnificent animals is spectacular. The endangered species centre was a great outing.

We will definately visit this establishment again and hopefully get a better guide.

Dear 'Stephen89023',

Thank you for your valued feedback, which we always appreciate. I was very pleased to hear that you enjoyed our lodge, and that the service team met expectation during your stay. We regret that you felt your ranger was not satisfactory, and have met with Michael to discuss the aspects raised in your review. As every other guest in his vehicle at the time of your visit left very positive feedback on their safaris and on Michael in particular in our guestbook, we are left with somewhat of a conundrum here. I have, however, included a little more by way of explanation for your reference below.

Regarding your comment that game drives were fake, unfortunately due to the size of the Kapama Private Game Reserve we do need radio communication with other guides to ensure that guests stand the best chance of seeing game. But having said this, this tool needs to be used responsibly. We have workshopped this with our guiding team, to be cognisant of not impacting on their guests' enjoyment of the environment.

Regarding Michael's presence in camp. At Camp Jabulani, rangers will generally drop their guests off in the turning circle after drive, and escort them back to the main lodge. He will also walk guests between their Suite and dinner after dark - both before and after dinner. During dinner, as many of our guests prefer their own quiet time (considering that they could have already spent between 7 and 10 hours with their guide during the day) we respect this space and set up private dining. However, on request, a ranger will gladly join them for their meal. He will then generally check on guests once during their meal to make arrangements for the following day, while someone from management come check on guests more regularly. Rangers are also on constant stand-by, and guests are welcome to have their ranger called at any time during the day. So in a nutshell, while you may not see your ranger at all times, he is always there and on call.

Regarding the allegation of abuse of alcohol, this is something we will not tolerate under any circumstances. We have a firm policy in place, which our teams fully subscribe to, and although they will occasionally enjoy a social drink when they get off duty, they are all well aware of the consequences of contravention. We have re-iterated this following the allegation made in your feedback.

Thank you for choosing to spend your valuable time with us, and we hope to welcome you back again!

Absolutely beautiful! We really couldn't ask for better. Service and rooms were great! Each room has it's own soaker pool which I got a lot of use out of during the afternoons after lunch and before the evening game drive. It was fun sitting in there and playing peek a boo with the Vervet Monkeys in the trees next to the deck. My wife got quite the surprise in the bathroom when she glanced out the window and a monkey was sitting on the branch just watching her...HA! Very funny. All the meals were great. The chef comes out and personally takes your order at each meal. While they have you choose from a couple of meals, they are very accommodating and will make it if they have it. We're very glad we stayed there, but on our next trip we would prefer to stay at some other camps like the one we stayed at in Botswana. Still first class, but a little more like 'roughing' it. We loved the resident hippo that watches you eat....fun!
