The perfect addition to my trip

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Feb 2024
LOVED staying here. My luxury tent was amid the forest where I could enjoy the sounds of birds and relax in my personal pool. The room is extremely spacious and has a homey rustic feel. The staff is amazing and so kind and the food they cook is amazing.

I had a wonderful stay at Katekani lodge! I stayed for 4 nights as part of a 6 day Viva Safaris experience and I am super-happy with my choice of accommodation. The "tents" are huge and I really appreciated the air con as it was really hot. Also, the private pool was great for cooling after long safari drives. However, the best of the best are the staff, especially Margaret with her hospitality, care and cooking. Food was excellent!!!

I was also lucky with animal sightings and saw the big five by day two. I actually ended up seeing the leopard three times!!! This was my fourth longer safari trip (having been to Kenia, Tanzania and to other parts of South Africa before), and these were my first ever leopard sightings. The drivers / rangers on the drives and walks were knowledgable and great fun. Big thumbs up to Viva Safaris!

Room tip: The Kruger park is about 45 minutes away. Also, some afternoon drives take place at Tremisana / Palule reserve, which is also 45 min drive.

Hi Hanna-Kaisa

Thank you for a WONDERFUL review!
We are thrilled that you are" super-happy" with Katekani Lodge.
Thanks for acknowledging the efforts of our staff, especially Margrett. She certainly is an excellent chef.
Well done on your game viewing - to have seen the Big Five by day 2 is great !
We are thrilled that VIva Safaris provided your first ever sighting of a leopard - despite your having visited Kenya, Tanzania and other game reserves. Not one sighting of leopard but THREE - wow !!!!

Thanks for the big thumbs-up !!!

Be well.

"Wow!" I believe that we really lucked out with our choice of lodge. Our stay at Katekani was incredible. The organisation behind the scenes was impeccable providing us with a relaxing and yet exciting stay.
The safari drivers, namely Viktor, Rocky and King George were friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the area, animals and plants.
They engaged with us, telling stories of their own (sometimes terrifying) experiences in the Bush.
Our chef Margaret was heaven sent as without her we'd have starved. She catered for our group, three vegans and a carnivore with kindness and care.
We met some wonderful people and made life long friends. Just wonderful.

The whole experience was amazing! The organization was seamless. Every day was filled to the max with a variety of adventures! The guides were amazing! Rocky, George, Viktor all were dedicated to finding us The Big Five and were so informative and knew so much about the animals and plants and it was so educational! Katekani Lodge was very comfortable and the rooms were huge with a walk-in shower and individual plunge pools! The highlight was the chef Margaret who made a special delicious meal for us every time we ate with her! Also all the people we met on Safari were so lovely! We never met such awesome people!

Mama T and her kitchen crew were terrific, very friendly and helpful! She even cooked me another egg when I indicated I didn’t want peppers and onions in the omelette. The tents were huge and really decked out, with a great view of the forest from the small sitting pool outside. Only concern is the floor of the indoor shower is extremely slippery when wet and the slope to the drain makes it difficult to stand. Please consider a bath mat or treads under the shower head.

Hi there

Thanks for an equally TERRIFIC review !
We are pleased that Mama T was able to serve you great food and that you enjoyed the bush setting of the "huge" suites.
I have advised camp manager, Charl ,about the slippery shower floors and he advises it has been attended to.
