Our waitress introduced herself as Peace. She was bright, enthusiastic, eloquent and a credit to the restaurant. At one point the manager, Gary, came up to the table while Peace was standing there. He said, "This is Peace ... I'm not even going to try and pronounce her name ..." and began telling us how awesome she was (thanks, but we had already noticed). He then read a Tripadvisor review from a previous customer who was similarly impressed with Peace's friendliness and professionalism.
Gary has worked with Peace for several months. That's long enough to learn how to pronounce her name, Noxolo Nxumalo. The x in isiZulu is a click sound. It's really not that difficult, Gary. You should try it. I'm sure Peace would be happy to teach you. If you can take the time to praise your star waitress, you can take the time to learn her name. Given this country's history, it's the least you can do. Hopefully she'll be manager in the not too distant future.
