Everything looks brand spanking new since the revamp. Shining, polished and clean as can be. Everything is in perfect nick and looking great. Situated close enough to the beach, and on the street of restaurants. This is prime spot. We had the breakfast buffet and it was sensitively done in a socially distanced way for those nervous about COVID, and delicious. The perfectly pleasant experience over night.

Room tip: The top floor rooms have a view of the sea. Although mostly hotels in view

Nestled on the slope in Umhlanga the 3 star Protea Umhlanga Hotel offers an extremely convenient location in a revamped and modernised facility. The staff are super friendly, the rooms are amply sized with a spacious bathroom and the best pressured rain shower I have ever experienced

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel other than the proximity to the beach it wasn’t amazing, the room was poorly serviced and when we arrived there was a frozen broken bottle of water in the ice box. It was there the entire time we were there and also when we left so guessing not a lot of actual cleaning is happening. I spoke to the front of desk staff and basically got a blank stare. Same blank stare when I said I had booked a room with a queen and got a weird room with two double beds

The welcoming reception staff seemed to do you a favor by checking you in
They then charge extra for parking, which is not shown anywhere on your booking; when they have ample parking & no option for street parking
The rooms are modern & nice enough; but even from the 8th floor; the road noise is bad!! & the windows are sealed properly so you here a howling wind noise all night
