POOR ADVERTISEMENT FOR SUN HOTEL GROUP

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 19 Dec 2019
As many reviews have highlighted, the service levels leave much to be desired.
Luckily we were dropped off at the hotel and even though the ads for the hotel indicate a shuttle service (at a cost), this is non existent, even at the casino.
Breakfast was standard fare, with nothing to write home about and trying to get a drink at the bar, was like trying to get water out of a stone.
The room linen was clean but there was algae around the hand basin - not good for ones health.
On the bright side, the manager (Mr Moodley?) went out of his way to sort out a predicament we found ourselves in and was extremely accommodating and helpful in this regard. If the rest of the staff could match his enthusiasm, most of the problems would not exist.
What a pity, as the hotel is in close proximity to the airport and reasonably priced.

Firstly there are no porters to assist you upon arrival.
Secondly the staff at reception need refresher training. Some of them will never go the extra mile to assist you. What happened to customer-centricity???
Thirdly the rooms smell like cigarette.
Fourthly the bathrooms are not cleaned properly.

The breakfast was the only decent part of our stay.

Room tip: Ask for a sea facing room, upper level.

Dont waste your money staying here in the coming weeks - there's construction at the lodge (not that anyone will advise you) and the airconditioning system was out this weekend. In Durban..... where an aircon at this stage of the year, is more a necessity than a luxury.

The lodge has no parking for your vehicle as all the casino patrons park in the lodge parking. With nowhere to park your car this is major issue that the staff do not seem to be concerned about or have any solutions. The noise in the rooms & corridors around you, with room parties from 1am to 4am is excessive so one is unable to sleep. Nothing is done about this - lodge staff & security do not get involved.

Upon arriving at Sibaya there were no porters availible to help. The security guard and the staff at reception were not much help either. The room was underwelming with no extra bedding and only 2 towels in the room. I had to request the extra towels 3 times before they arrived. The breakfast was a shocking disaster, with a poor selection, cold food and brown fruit of which I have taken a photo. When I brought this to the attention of the host I was advised that its only the garnish and that the warmers are working. This really does not seem like a 3 star resort to me as I have stayed in resorts in many countries and espicially in the sun international group. The check in deposit of R500 has been double debited instead of refunded. I will never stay in this hotel again.

Room tip: Rather stay any where else

The most friendly staff I have ever met. So helpful and kind. Also very hard-working. The ladies at the restaurant are amazing, the young receptionist totally professional. Keep it up 👍
I recommend this place.
