Upon arrival we were assisted by Mornê Mostert Head of Department for the front desk. The front Desk upon arrival sets your mood for your entire holiday so sadly Mornê's incredibly dead attitude created a feeling of unrest from the get go. i can’t overstate how unfriendly he was to us. A smile goes a long way.

We arrived 5 hours ahead of time, so the room was understandably not ready, instead of telling us we could use some of the amenities while we wait though we were told to come back later and that he will phone us when the room is ready. They did clean the room ahead of check-in-time which we appreciate.
Regardless of the experience we received upon arrival the location of the Hotel is Terrible. Although the hotel is situated on the beachfront and close to many desirable locations like Ushaka marine world etc, the beach is riddled with litter and homeless beggars, the streets with minubus taxis hooting and racing and the view away from the beach is of discarded and poor mass housing.

The rooms are tiny but acceptable and really fully furnished with even a dishwasher as an example. It could use some deep cleaning for the couches, curtains etc but was relatively clean. The air-con though was working but permanently set at a temperature that does not constitute acceptable. The fridge was also set to level 1 which did not freeze ice cubes in the freezer compartment properly.
The hotel was under construction that was not indicated when making the booking nor on their website. This was not small renovations with the only restaurant in the hotel constantly plagued with grinding and hammering. With the signs in the elevator stating they will be busy until June 2018 this could be a problem for many.

The indoor warm swimming pool was fantastic especially for our Daughter. It is massive with a kids part and the temperature was very good. Not cold at all but also not a sauna. The restaurant in the hotel had fantastic food and is recommended.

For the price the hotel is recommended if you are willing to drive everywhere from the hotel and can sleep with the constant hooting surrounding area.

Booked the 4 sleeper for 3 of us, extremely depressed with the space. I had to sleep in the kitchen because thats where the other 2 beds go. Also your lounge is in the 1 and only room. Extremely cramped and had a foul stuffy smell when we entered. Sucks that Wi-Fi is chargeable compared to bel-air. Not looking forward to this stay and cant wait to leave.

Room tip: Space space and space, where is it

Receptionist was great and very helpful though we had to wait for the room to be cleaned. Cleaning lady was very understanding, she waited till we went out then clean. Security was a bit harsh on our arrival, maybe he thought we were lost, didn’t like the way he talked to us. Also there was an Indian guy who kept on opening our room whilst we were inside, he just opened the door without knocking first and that made us to uncomfortable. I think he was a handyman.
Paying for parking was a low for me, didn’t understand why when you book directly they charge parking but when you use the agents your parking is free.

Great place to chill at the plaza and the heated pool was awesome. See facing room are great. Loved and enjoyed our stay. Will definitely come back

For the parking the agents get their weeks from the owners that gets 1 free parking with their unit , yes if you booked directly with Durban Spa for rental we charge parking because the parking does not belong to us.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to always welcoming you back.

Checking into durban spa was quick and efficient with friendly staff. Very impressive that each room has their own parking spot, so there'll never be a time when you won't have parking! Parking is also free which is great.
Our room was cleaned well and looked presentable on arrival. Rooms are very spacious and the air conditioning system is a great blessing (although it is very dusty and needs urgent cleaning!). Rooms have great views of the ocean and the resort is close to all amenities. It is situated in a dingy area with many taxis and loiterers around, and lots of mugging happens just outside the hotel (best to travel everywhere by car).

Although the room was clean, and understandably hotels are constantly busy, cleaning needs to be done to deeper levels eg. Curtains, deep clean couches etc.

Our 8 Sleeper was very spacious and accommodated 8 adults very comfortably.

Sadly hotel doesn't have free WiFi.

Towels are not changed daily as is with other hotels.

Dishwasher doesn't clean dishes properly. And house maids do not do dishes at all.

The lady cleaning our room, Maureen, was absolutely moody and miserable. It's the last thing u need to see on holiday

There are HUGE cockroaches in the room.

Early in the morning, some sort of renovations start and is VERY VERY disturbing to guests who want to sleep in late and relax.

The indoor heated pool is lovely especially when weather isn't too great, but when we went, the whole pool area reeked of urine which was terrible.

The hotel has its own laundromat which is EXCELLENT, however, washing machines and tumble dryers should have locks on them to prevent washing from getting stolen.

Overall we had a lovely stay. Durban spa makes a great holiday destination but the location is abit off.

Booked a six sleeper it is a nice resort although I think they should really look into revamping the whole hotel itself as it's very old, especially the rooms they try to make money by squeezing beds in a kitchen so not healthy and the bathroom needs attention badly they should remove the tub and have a good shower bathroom is very small for a six sleeper
The pools are very nice although u cannot get the jacuzzi to work we sat there waiting for it to come on and it didn't , but a nice place to be with the kids for the heated pool. They need a restaurant badly .
