I've visited the Phansi museum many times during my visits to Durban and I am always delighted by the new exhibitions showcasing local artists, as well as by the museum's main collection of African art and crafts.
Be sure to book ahead so you can have a tour with Puminzele, the curator of the museum - which is an unparalleled educational experience.
If you are lucky enough to be their while a school group is touring the museum, you might be fortunate to watch the school children perform a song and/or dance during their visit.
Paul Mikula, the founder of the museum, is hoping to expand their program, so that visitors can also enjoy some hands on time and hopefully get to learn how to make some of the crafts on exhibit.

Very good collection of African artefacts. Displayed beautifully. Definitely worth a visit. Try to make sure you are there for a tour with Phuminzele. She brings it to life. Thank you.

I've lived in Durban my whole life and only recently discovered this hidden gem!

I visited this museum with family from the UK who also thoroughly enjoyed the interactive experience. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and provided a spectacular tour! This is a truly beautiful collection which is a must-see for all those who love South African culture.

Book a privately guided tour in this most stunning, privately owned museum and you will be in-depth informed with regards to not only Zulu-, but other African cultures... I have rarely seen such an excisite exhibition and well presented tour! A definite must!
