“Great tranquil relaxing park ”
Reviewed 14 January 2017 via mobile

I have been going to this park for just under 50 years, basically my whole life. From as long as I can remember this park has should the test of time. Now as an out of towner this park brings back good memories, the zoo is great value for money and the intention is for small kids so adults don't expect to see the big five. Still great to have a relaxing picnic. Will always visit when in town.

“Fun Times”
Reviewed 21 December 2016

The Mitchell Park complex, set in the leafy suburb of Morningside, is always a hit with the littlies. Comprised of a grassy park (with benches, tables and a play area) and a zoo, it is rightly one of Durban's most popular attractions.
The entry fee to the zoo is negligible (currently ZAR7 for kids and ZAR10 for adults) and there is an impressive array of animals that includes flamingo, kookaburra, wallabies, Aldabra tortoises, raccoons, and blue duiker. Peacocks and Egyptian geese roam freely and there are always (to the delight of the kids) wild vervet monkeys that visit the zoo, park and surrounds.
The Park and play area is great for a picnic and for the kids to run off their plentiful energy.
The Blue Zoo restaurant in the park complex has an affordable and tasty menu. Charlie's Cafe and Bistro, Mark Gold's coffee shop (and fabulous Jewellery) and Vida é Caffe are across the road and feature great coffee and yummy light menus.

The food at the restaurant in the park was awesome and affordable. The Zoo is very affordable and is a great attraction for a half day excursion.

“So cute! ”
Reviewed 19 November 2016 via mobile

The park is beautiful and peaceful with a little café to the one side. The animal park has some really interesting creatures as well as some super cute, more interactive creatures :) good with friends, family, or your partner.

“A nice little zoo in an attractive park”
Reviewed 16 November 2016

I really enjoyed this little zoo, cheap to get in and bigger than I anticipated for a park zoo.
Lots of birds, fish, monkeys and other small animals too, all seem to be well looked after, well fed and happy too.

It took us a good 90 mins to walk around the whole zoo, it wasn't very busy. Unfortunately the reptile house wasn't open when we went but there was plenty of other attractions.

I liked that there was also some non captive wildlife at the zoo, some birds a type of goose, clearly free but had nested, some had chicks, one even sat on her eggs in a nest she had made on a wall. Wild monkeys too, they get in and steal the food, looks like they are mostly chased away but we saw a couple of cheeky ones!
