Review of Mitchell Park

Mitchell Park
Ranked #19 of 135 things to do in Durban
Attraction details
Reviewed 14 September 2012

I've been to Mitchell Park many times since I was a kid. It was once beautiful and there would always be a kids party there...Unfortunately its not the same due to neglect. The animals however are still an attraction. Worth stopping and visiting for an amount of R5 (entry fee) at the animal zoo inside the park.

A must for the bird lover and the ZAR 8 entry fee is very cheap. The animal cages are in need of repair though.
Monkeys galore on the grounds, beware of these pests.
Do treat yourself to scones and tea at the little restaurant on site.

This is a great little park in the heart of the city where you can take your young kids or older folk as well. Great spot for picnics , palying ball / frisbee / cricket , or just chilling on the grass with a good book. There is a small playground with some swings and slides etc for younger kids and a mini-zoo with soeciality animals.

Explore the Zoo with a range of animals & then relax or play in the park! Mitchell Park has forever been a fixture as a great family spot for locals! The kids have always enjoyed the animals: 100 year old turtles, dwarf crocodiles, lemurs, kangaroos, flamingoes, herons, parrots and more birds than you can believe! The greatest thing is that it's a stone's throw away from the heart of Durban & just a street away from the oh-so-trendy Florida Road! You know, back in the day it even had an elephant!!!

Great to see the various exotic animals on display, it is well kept and neat. The park itself is still looking great, however the pond needs some work.
