This could be a bigger attraction for tourists and locals- the zoo really needs attention. But it's still a lovely place to bring kids to, have a picnic etc and the flowerbeds are always well maintained and olourful

So the hotel staff said you can try Mitchell Park just up the road if you want something to do....... I did and well what a experience. I wasn't sure what was going to be there at something like £0.64p for the entry fee you can only guess. What a little gold mine, birds of all shapes, sizes, colours and in some case vocabulary are abundant. Peacocks willing to stand and have their picture taken. Small animals (meerkats my favourites anyhow) monkeys etc are there and so are some endangered creatures that being cared for at the park. everything is looked after but in a state of disrepair as well which adds to the overall feel of the place. I found the fact that the animals were not even slightly fazed by humans being around them and went about there day as normal (you can only guess what a UK park would be like, animals fearing from the animals who have paid to to come in) Top of Florida road on the right is Mitchell Park, the Zoo is at the back VISIT it will take you hours because it is relaxing and enjoyable. Wonderful cafe outside the Zoo sorry almost forgot about that

Mitchell Park still offers locals and tourists good value for a family outing. Lot's for the kids to see and do. Can pack a picnic basket yourself and sit around the gardens or eat at a nearby restaurant, walking distance to Florida Road.

Sad to see how run down it has become. BUT the park for children is awesome (very busy though) and I have to say the curry at the tea garden/restaurant almost outdid their delicious lemon meringue pie and milkshakes.
