“Hippo Country”

Reviewed 28 February 2016

Home of the Zulu’s, Shakaland and the Wetlands.
We visited the St. Lucia Wetlands to see their population of around 900 Hippo’s and 1,600 Crocodiles. One Hippo tooth can weigh up to 5kg and their jaws can crush a human like a little tin can. Yet these huge monsters of the river (and a relative of the whale) will not harm the small critters they live with.
Lots of birdlife as well. Worth the trip

Perfect way to see the incredible wildlife that makes a home in the estuary. The tour boat guide/captain was very entertaining and informative, ensuring we had the best view of the birds, hippos, and crocodiles. You will never be closer to large hippo groups than this !

Very interesting boat trip with lots of wildlife sightings. Knowledgeable captain. And at the parking lot a man selling great little carvings that hold tea lights. Be sure to get at least one.

The area is absolutely beautiful, but because of the draught, the water-level in the lake is quite low. There Is very strict water restrictions in St.Lucia and that is a major concern.
