We like to stay at this hotel in Johannesburg as the location is ideal and the rooms are spacious. Jane at reception was amazing and concierge staff are all extremely courteous.
Only downside to our stay this time was that we had a fire alarm go off one morning at 0230hrs. All the guests rushed down after quite a confusion and gathered at reception. We stood around for close to 30 minutes without a single staff member in sight. An announcement was then made to say that it was a false alarm and then alll guests had to use the stairs to go back up to their respective floors. No staff member ever showed face during this drama.

Excellent hotel very well located in Sandton with direct access to Sandton City Commercial Mall. Rooms spacious and very comfortable with all amenities you need. Big bathrooms well equipped. Small exterior pool and good gym. Excellent Breakfast buffet . Overall excellent business hotel with large range of facilities. To improve decoration a little bit dated especially in the lobby.

We usually stay at the Intercontinental at the JNB Airport but we had more time this trip so we decided to stay at the Intercontinental in Sandton. We loved the hotel! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are looking a bit dated and do need some renovation but they are spacious and roomy. The location is perfect with an easy access to the mall with all the restaurants and shops you could want. We will be back!

The hotel needs to be refurbished. Curtains in my room were not opening on one side. I told maintenance and the answer was we will refurbish and so we are not fixing it.
AC was not working in the Presidential Suite it was hot and stuffy.
5 calls to receptions and visit of the maintenance crew till 11:30 at night.
Was given a noisy insuffisant small portable unit.
Told that the manager in the morning would follow-up on making things right.
When I checked out the next morning the front desk did not even ask me how was my stay?
Nothing was reported from the previous night in my file.
Front desk and Duty manger came to apologized when I requested proactively to speak with someone.
Agree it was unacceptable and that he would follow-up with me.
One week later and still no news from the hotel, as a Platinum IGH member I am surprised and deceived, hence this post.

What a lovely evening I had at the Atrium restaurant tonight at the Intercontinental Sandtown towers....

The food and wine was delicious and the bread, presented under a cloche with some mushroom soup, chicken liver pate and herb butter was a welcome and delicious freebie aka amouse bouche.

What makes the difference is always the service though. Great recommendation of the lamb rack and impeccable service from Omar. I wouldn't have chosen this without his recommendation and it was delicious.

What a professional and friendly guy Omar is and made my evening more enjoyable as a sole business traveller.

He tells me his twin, Cello works win a other Jo'burg Intercontinental so may try that next time - not sure he can top Omar though :). Sorry, don't want to encourage sibling rivalry :)
