This is an older hotel with lovely garden spaces and 2 nice pools. The rooms are clean and well appointed. They vary in size and exact layout. It is nice to be able to sit outside for breakfast and enjoy the gardens around the front pool. We spent some time sitting on the edge of the back pool dangling our feet in the water, which was a really pleasant way to start the evening.

The hotel connects directly to the brand new Marc mall which has a convenient grocery store (Pick-N-Pay) and drug store (Clicks) as well as a full service fitness center (Planet Fitness) and several restaurants. When fully completed, the mall will also have a walkway to Stella Street for easier access to the Gautrain station. The Bull Run restaurant is a part of the hotel. The hotel was also hosting Broadway style shows in a large room off the lobby while we were there. Unfortunately, the night we wanted to go ended up being cancelled.

It is a short walk to Mandela Square and Sandton Shopping Centers and the hotel also provides a shuttle if you don't want to walk. There are tall stairs at the closest entrance to the mall when walking but the shuttle drops off at an escalator inside the mall parking garage so is a better option for those with limited stair-climbing ability.

Room tip: upper floors are better, the area around the back pool is quieter.

Dear "JP-in-MD"
Thank you for your candid review on TripAdvisor’, of your recent stay at our hotel. Your feedback is extremely valuable to our team.
In taking great care in our colonial hotel our aim is to offer a comfortable atmosphere with a touch of the past mixed with the modern feel, with two lush gardens with two outdoor pools for one to relax in.
We have launched our “Live at the Balalaika” theatre which we are hosting musical shows and comedy shows to entertain our GUESTS.
As mentioned, -linked to the hotel, the well-known “Bull Run” restaurant has just been renovated and The Marc shopping centre was opened on the 26 July 2018 and links up to the Hotel and the Bull Run. Yes the walkway will save a lot time of time and will be accessible to Stella street entrance of The Marc shopping centre and convenient and short walk from the Gautrain station.
Once again thank you for the feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
Kind regards,

The first thing you notice at this hotel is just how friendly and helpful the staff are. The second thing you notice is that it a spread out over a large area and finding your room is a challenge. The direction signage for rooms needs to be better, perhaps having a zoned colour scheme to the different room areas may work better. Once you get the hang of it you can find your room easily, but on the first couple of times finding your way is difficult, although all the staff are very helpful! The garden is a great asset, and you can eat your breakfast overlooking the garden which is very calming!

The hotel is adjacent to the Marc mall with lots of restaurant around plus a grocery. Its also attached to the Bull Run resto which gives affordable price for good food. Also provides free shuttle to Mandela Square.

The hotel itself is a bit old but I kinda like old places. Walk around the pool area in the morning it will make you feel relaxed.

If there's a con, that would be the slow internet connection inside the rooms.

Dear "Maria _27B"
Thank you very much for your candid review on ‘TripAdvisor’, of your recent stay at our hotel. Your feedback is extremely valuable to our team.
Yes we are located in the “heart” of Sandton, and ideal for business or leisure trips, with one of the best locations in Sandton, adjacent to The Marc shopping centre and Nelson Mandela Square just down the road. And as mentioned the amazing Bull Run is linked to our Hotel.
Our pool areas are a delight, between all the high rises in Sandton. Our first pool area is more like a shaded haven or a little oasis, that leads to our terrace and our second pool area you feel like you are at a holiday resort
It appears from your feedback that there were a few challenges during your stay with Internet performance. In today’s modern world, we certainly understand how important Internet performance is to ensuring an enjoyable stay, whether it’s to stay connected with colleagues during business travel or with family and friends during leisure adventures.
I truly apologize that the service was not fully functional during your stay. I, along with all other hotel associates, am passionate about offering the best possible experience to all of our guests and are subsequently looking into ways to improve the reliability of our Internet service.
One of our key priorities is to provide the highest level of friendly and courteous service.
In taking great care in our colonial hotel our aim is to offer a comfortable atmosphere with a touch of the past.
We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

An old hotel with a countryside flair right in the center of Sandton, Johannesburg. Beautiful gardens with ponds make you forget that you are in the center of a big city. The old English style and the layout of the gardens makes you think you are visiting a botanical garden. The bull run restaurant with it is a must and recently refurbished. Some rooms of the hotel could be renovated as well. Otherwise they have excellent staff and all the amenities you require. The computers should be better serviced as they are always having problems with the printer, ink, paper or even the internet. With one sentence: they have seen better days. Otherwise you have a wonderful shuttle to the Gautrain station or the Nelson Mandela square.

Dear “holgerburkhardt55”
Thank you very much for your candid review on ‘TripAdvisor’, of your recent stay at our hotel. Your feedback is extremely valuable to our team.
As mentioned we are located in the heart of Sandston’s business district, and we are “a little bit of country in the heart of Sandton”. Once you are sitting and relaxing in our pool areas, or on the terrace it is more like a shaded haven or a little oasis in these temperatures in summer. And once inside our rooms, you do not overlook any of the street in Sandton.
My apologies for the business centre not being up to standard, we will ensure that it is repaired.
In taking great care in our colonial hotel our aim is to offer a comfortable atmosphere with a touch of the past.
We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
