Absolutely perfect - this is one of the best hotels in the world! You get thoroughly spoilt and I am amazed every time I stay here how wonderful the staff, service, food and facilities are. What an amazing team - thank you!

A lovely place to stay!
Friendly staff, excellent food,amazing spa!
Rooms are comfortable, very spacious and include complimentary bar.
Breakfast is excellent, full of options and great quality of food.
Service is exceptional!
Just one little thing I noticed not coffe and te in the suite. A full complimentary bar with a good selection of choices, but not coffe or te. Besides that ... everything is amazing!

There was a group of us staying for a couple of nights in a villa. We each had our own rooms and had an expansive public area for our own use. My room was spacious and very comfortable, a lovely place to enjoy. Staff were excellent and we all felt very special enjoying such a great villa. The grounds are lovely, and we had our own pool. I certainly had a wonderful stay and would gladly stay there again.

We visited the Saxon for 1 night while waiting for a flight connection to Mauritius. It was a bit of a treat, as was the whole trip, for our joint 50th.
Overall we were disappointed with the place.
The room was probably the best we have stayed in anywhere and the hotel itself is lovely we found a couple of areas lacking.
First of all the staff was reserved at best, you can maintain a high level of professionalism while still being happy and smiley guys, no need for the serious faces all the time. Not sure why but we did get a feeling that they were looking down their nose at us, but hey, our money is as good as the next sheik or visiting dignitary (saw both while there).
Our room was not ready so we were taken to the outside patio bar which was a beautiful area but after asking for the wine list the waiter took it to the wrong table. When we asked for it again and chose our wine the sommelier came back and said they didn’t have it and said we could try this other one, which in itself is fine but when you are paying £450 per night for a standard suite you would expect an elevated level of service I.e. not having to ask twice for the menu and perhaps being advised which wine would be closest to the one we originally ordered and why (similar grape, taste...a sommeliers job, right?)
This may seem picky but you had to be there to appreciate how disappointing even these tiny details were when we were expecting so much.
This wasn’t the worst part of the stay. We were very tired having been travelling so decided not to eat in the restaurants but to take room service. We ordered really simple food, mac and cheese and a curry with chips - I know, a bit down market for such a so called top end hotel, but hey, we fancied it). It took over 45 minutes to arrive at a time that was not busy (very early evening), it was all almost cold, the curry was watery and just tasted of curry powder and the mac and cheese was tasteless. It is only because we were so hungry that we ate about half of it and left the rest. It truly was disgusting food and in a 5 star hotel.
On the flip side we ordered breakfast too in room service at 0530 as we had a really early start and this was beautiful, fresh, plentiful, tasty, healthy and although we ordered bubbles for breakfast and expected a glass each, we got a whole bottle included in the price - very good touch.
The grounds are lovely, the hotel is great but as an overall experience we were let down.
We mentioned our room service experience the night before when we checked out and explained that it was not that we expected anything doing about it but so they knew and could ensure it doesn’t happen again - we got a simple “sorry” and not much more, again with the sullen faces looking on.
Sorry, would try somewhere else next time in Joberg.

The Saxon is located in Sandton, a long drive from the airport. I got there after dark, but it seems to be located in a suburban area. The grounds are large, well manicured and immaculate. The rooms fit for royalty. Two restaurants, one of which was exceptional. I didn't eat at the other one. This property demands a multi-night stay. I was only there for one night, but will return to fully enjoy this gem of a hotel.

Room Tip: I was on the second floor. Nice view, quiet.
