Check-in was well organised for the big group, Rooms are spacious with a large comfortable bed. Good walk in shower as requested. The safe provided is not bolted to the furniture which is NOT a good feature! Lots of choice for breakfast with an efficient egg station. Roof top pool is a good place to relax. Had dinner one night, Service is a bit hap-hazard, however the food was good.More

My wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Sandton, Rivonia Road for 10 days. We were felt part of the family from the minute we checked in and nothing as too much for any of the staff. The Senior management, the front desk staff, the dining staff and the bar staff were all exceptional. I big thank you especially to Winnie who was not only helpful but very sympathetic to the cause of the Australian bush fires which is very close to us. I simply cannot thank the staff enough and wish them all a wonderful year ahead.
The first night the hotel dropped us off at a nearby restaurant and had arranged for the restaurant to drop us off. We felt safe at all times in Sandton as the hotel is very close to everything you would like to see.

Really charming staff but everything else was dodgy. Prostitute openly plying her business in the "Chairman's Bar"; the doormen taking bribes from unauthorized taxis when you need a car (can be risky in Joburg); room safe not attached to anything so can be picked up and carried off; broken metal plug in the sink that the cleaner can see is broken but has done nothing about; and impossible to make an outside call from the room without going through the operator. All a bit of a metaphor for the downward trajectory of the country.

The staff of the Hotel are great, lots of smiles and very friendly. The hotel restaurant and bar is pretty good and the fact that the hotel is connected to a shopping mall is great. The rooms and passages are starting to look a little tired though and do require an upgrade.

The Holiday Inn in Sandton is in a fantastic location, just a five minute walk from Nelson Mandela Square. We felt perfectly safe in the area in daylight, possibly walking after dark isn’t such a good idea. The hotel has great views of Sandton and surrounding areas including Hillbrow
Check In:
After an overnight and very long flight from the UK, we arrived at the hotel early, not expecting to be allowed to check in. The front desk were fantastic, sending us for a coffee in their bar, while they got a room ready for us. We were checked in by 11.00am at no extra charge
Room:
We had a modern, clean and comfortable room with flat screen tv with some great premium channels included. The bed was super comfortable with a choice of pillows. There was slight confusion with the safe as some rooms had upgraded safes and others didn’t and the staff didn’t seem to know the passcode of some of the safes. This was sorted out quickly for us. We also had an issue with the air conditioning, which didn’t cool the room properly on the first night. This was reported to reception the next morning and was repaired and working perfectly when we returned back to the afternoon mid-afternoon.
Service:
Service throughout our stay was fabulous, from the moment that we arrived early and reception pulled out the stops to get us into a room early, to the repairs on the air conditioning system and always with a big happy smile and polite chatter
Check Out:
We checked out early morning, when it was quite busy but without any fuss – the team were on top of everything.
Summary:
I would stay here again, when visiting Johannesburg. The hotel is in good condition with a superb gym and rooftop pool. The hotel has a shuttle to the Gautrain which connect Sandton with Or Tambo Airport and also the CBD, but as I said above, its only a short and safe daylight walk.

First time visit and was thoroughly impressed about the service.
Check in went real fast. Was immediately upgraded to a executive room due to Spire elite status. Spacious room. Big bathroom. Relaxed double sofa. 2 relaxing chairs. Indeed a leader compared other leading brands with executive rooms.
Bedding was clean and fresh. Had both dinner and breakfast in my room. The food was average.
Shuttle service was good to and from Nelson Mandela Square.
One bad aspect is the lounge service. Although its free for executive rooms and status clients, the servings is not good. The Hilton Lounge in Sandton has much better servings with unlimited drinks and good canapes.
Will definitely come back just because the executive room is bigger and 'better' than other leading brands.
