As an avid traveller, few things sway us, particularly as related to service.
The Faircity Mapungubwe Hotel Apartments can use some work on their rooms..... the couches are in desperate need of a steam-cleanin, and an update on their sheets would do the wonders.
Whatee found to be outstanding was the overall degree of service, both from the hotel staff and from the servers at The Marshall restaurant. The latter, by far, their best asset.
The servers do a phenomenal job of paying attention to every detail, and have a natural way of making their patrons feel at home. Two servers in particular, Devon in the morning and Samu in the evening, shine above the rest.
Samu, with her kind smile and warm manner, enhances any meal experience. Devon, always on his toes and willing to go the extra mile, is genuinely interested in making sure you have what you need, even before you know you need it.
You'd do yourself a great service in requesting either of them two.
Unfortunately, the kitchen doesn't march to the beat of the same drum as the front-of-the-house. Food times vary, and they drop the ball on simple things.... somehow, the making of a hot chocolate is quicker than serving a scoop of ice cream....
All in all, this hotel offers its guests a good value. They're deserving of a five-star rating, but the condition of the rooms is the strongest factor against said rating.
