Had a wonderful day out at Flames. Had not idea Joburg had such amazing views!! Beautiful food and wine. Felt a little done in to see a bottle of water was R60 when the bill came, but on the whole a lovely (if very expensive) meal. Aminah was a wonderful host, and she made it a meal to remember.

We had been wanting to go there for a while and finally made it happen last minute. We were looking forward to it as this restaurant consistently appears on blogs as a must do.

The view was very nice but that’s about it. The food was really bad.

1. Kids margarita pizza was so bad. They used ketchup as the base. My son actually started crying. We sent it back. The manager and chef were both horrified and promptly sent a new one that was good.

2. Tomato and burrata salad was mediocre. The tomatoes lacked in flavor and the whole salad was bleh.

3. My husband ordered the ramen soup. It was soo salty and off tasting that he didn’t have more than one spoonful.

4. I ordered the vegan burger. They don’t make it on site. It is bought frozen. It completely taste like fake meat and is completely off putting for someone who is truly vegan. I specifically asked the server if it was soy based or veggie based. He said it was veggie based but I could not see one single bit of vegetable in there. It was 100% processed.

All in all it was very disappointing. We took a long uber ride there and back and feel like we completely wasted an entire evening and a whole bunch of $$.

Service was terrible. Unattentive. We had to fill up our water and wine mostly ourselves. They forgot to bring one starter and after 20 minutes waiting and rest of us finished with our staters, we called manager. Finally, the starter arrived with excuse that “it was deliverd at another table” ??? We had to wait long even for the bill and restaurant was almost empty with plenty waiters. Food was below average and definitely not worth the higher price. Burger was dry, tasteless and well done (although we ordered medium rare). Others were almost tasteless, no fantasy, nothing special. You can get the same or even better in many restaurants in the town for half price.

We had belated birthday dinner at the Flames Restaurant. First impression is always good at the Four Seasons Hotel but at the restaurant it was not that great. Chairs at our table were old, not comfortable and too low so we had to ask for additional cushions. Food was good but not in line with the very high pricing.

Having stayed and eaten at some Four Seasons hotels around the world, we wanted to check out this one in Joburg. The restaurant is on a terrace with an awesome view, especially with the jacaranda trees in bloom. The waitress was friendly and helpful but it seemed she was overwhelmed and running from one table to another. Starters and desserts were served at the buffet with a lot to choose from but most was rather average (oysters were very good). Mains were ordered from the kitchen and were rather plain and uninteresting. The bread did not seem freshly baked. Desserts were very pretty but bland taste wise. This was not typical Four Seasons service nor food so we were a bit disappointed.
