This is a local place, serving local food. As per the review title, I really wanted to try mopane worms but they weren't available. So instead it was soweto chicken and mozambique prawn curry. Is it high class, no. Is is fabulos decor, no. Is it local and honest, yes. Was Patrick the manager friendly, yes. Was the music trying a little too hard and a little too hard, yes. The place wears it's heart on its sleeve. If you want something 'local' in CBD then this ticks the box.

unfortunately Darkie needs tender loving care.

the quality of the service and the food needs attention to detail. There are a number of alternative spots opening in the down town area, and unless management and the owners invest quickly , this once great spot may find fewer guests coming to visit.

We scheduled a breakfast for 7 early on a cold winters morning. Within 30 minutes of arriving the lights went off - it was not load shedding , the prepaid meter needed to be reloaded. 20 minutes later, we had lights. Needless to say the gas burner also did not have sufficient gas,

I may choose a different venue in future.

This is one place I love to go to each time I am in Johannesburg...feel safe and their food is great! For anyone wanting to visit the city i have since turned my back on....i say take a turn there and feel the JHB vibe. A stone throw away from the famous offices that Mandela and Sisulu practiced law years ago...

I found Darkie by chance about two years ago and keep going back. It is a wonderful and classy oasis in burgeoning the JHB cbd. A great restaurant/coffee shop that seamlessly turns into an even classier and vibrant night spot.Friday afternoons turn into evenings and nights with little fanfare and hours pass.Darkies epitomises a trendy but welcoming urban social experience that is still connectec to the pulse of this great city.A must

On a Saturday night they crank up the beats and it becomes a cool place to hang out for a bite to eat or drinks with friends.
Other times fine for a coffee in the sun or a beer or wine after work

menu fine -- service great - with some extra personal touches.
