There is a wonderful view of larger Johannesburg from this viewpoint. The downside is that there is very little parking to be had for tourist vehicles on the roadside and access to the Entrance to the elevators is extremely confusing to tourists who visit on their own. Virtually no signage to guide a tourist.

A visit to the top of the Carlton Centre offers great panoramic views of Johannesburg. It is good value and a great way to spend some time. I stayed in Anderson Street which was about 10 minutes walk from the Carlton Centre. It is very safe to walk around this area,

Not the tallest building any longer, but really worth a visit for the wildly fast ascent in the lift, and the view with the history of mining in Johannesburg. A bit run down, but still educational .

This is a place I always take any international friends visiting from another country. Its affordable and has a brilliant 360 view of the whole of Joburg and the surrounds. It can be done within just over an hour. It can be tricky to find but if you ask any of the security at the Carlton Shopping centre below it they will guide you to the exact location of the lifts to get to the top. If you can go at sunset, its a real treat. Pity the restaurant at the top has closed;-(

We visited the tower to enjoy a nice Top View of Johannesburg. It needs a little search to find the Ticket booth in the center, but just ask one of the guards. The friendly staff in the booth offered a discount for one of kids - its ZAR15 per person. There is one elevator that brings you to the 50th floor in seconds. Once there, you will immediately see that NO maintenance is done over the past 20 years. All signs are unreadable/broken/gone, the restaurant is closed and it is close to dirty. However the views are great (windows are not cleaned either so pick one of the clean windows..). We planned to combine this visit to shop in the Mall - note that all famous retail chains are gone and for Europeans there is nothing to shop in this shopping mall. We arrived by Uber yet Uber won't pick you up at this location so you need to take a "meter" taxi to leave the area.
