“It's a zoo”
Reviewed 15 March 2017 via mobile

The zoo is nice and spacious. They try to keep up the maintenance. Does need bit of Tlc. Otherwise not bad.

“An impressive South African Zoo - Well done !!!”
Reviewed 14 March 2017

This is a complementary update from me of the Johannesburg Zoo from my last review dating back a year earlier. I visited the zoo this time mainly to provide a timeline update of the look and feel and also to provide some new animal photos taken on the shoot...

The zoo staff must be commended in many areas that they have worked on improving things since the last visit. It is now really a "World Class" experience...

There is some work still in progress on parts of the zoo, but this does not seem to interfere with the over all experience. For people who enjoy a more of a quiet visit, I would certainly recommend Mondays, as this is the best day for tourists wishing a nice quiet environment. After Monday there are a lot of school visits and things will be a lot more noisy and quite busy.

Wow, well done to JHB Zoo staff for keeping the place looking great. I was very impressed with the condition of the animals, and was amazed that the zoo staff caring for them even take time to play with some of the animals during performing their routine tasks. I am sure that other travellers will see even from the photos I have provided, how well groomed and happy the creatures of the park are looking.

It is just in a beautiful condition at the moment and really worthwhile as a tourist visit with the whole family or friends and most certainly something for all South Africans to be proud of. I am sure that everyone from all walks of life will enjoy this one...

“An average experience”
Reviewed 14 March 2017

One can appreciate the wide variety of animals and enclosure space to an extent, however, the zoo requires more information about the animals on the sign post situated at the enclosure and some enclosures doesn't have any.
I would also like to highlight that they praise themselves on maintaining a high standard of animal welfare, but when ones looks deeper into the simpler things, one can see slight neglect... example the pygmy hippo enclosure- Minimal water .. Most of the animal enclosures that required water were either minimal or extremely dirty and some of the enclosures were not cleaned.
They should also re-look at updating the information on the site and not only the fees section.

“Pleasant stroll”
Reviewed 12 March 2017

I was here scoping this out for when I bring my family here one day in the future. A really good exhibition of African animals. It's also a nice, spacious and family friendly venue for picnics or birthday parties. However, if your kids are of the right age and you have the time I would rather recommend heading out to Pilanesberg on a day safari.
