“Moonlight Tour & Dinner Picnic”
Reviewed 2 March 2017 via mobile

My friends and family were on the lookout to do something different - not the usual dinner, movies or games and wanted to make it a family friendlt activity.

With a little research we discovered The Joburg Zoo did night tours!

Sunset tour (4pm - 6:30pm)Moonlight tour (5:15pm - 8pm)Night tour (6:15pm - 9pm)

We were a group of almost 30 - and everyone one had a wonderful time on our guided moonlight tour.

The tour allows picnic baskets and includes a bonfire, hot chocolate and marshmallows - a fun finish to a great tour.

“A delightful, peaceful space in the centre of a worldclass African city”
Reviewed 1 March 2017

The recent heavy rains had rendered the zoo a lush and beautiful garden - if rather overgrown in places - in which to wander and enjoy close-up views of animals and birds from near and far.

Not having been to the zoo for many years, I found the cages and enclosures to be vastly improved since my childhood excursions in the 1960's, and later with my own children during the 1990's.

The closure of the old open parking area came as a surprise, and we had difficulty finding the entrance to the temporary car park, while a new multi-storyed parkade is under construction. it was poorly sign-posted in Erlswold Way.

There were several kiosks, at one of which we made a small purchase, and for which the salesperson had insufficient ready cash change. This had to be sourced from another kiosk further down the road. This aspect calls for better organisation, as it would not make a good impression on overseas visitors.

Overall, as marvelous and beautiful place as ever.
Do visit the Johannesburg Zoo when next in Gauteng!

“You have to just love it...”

I have been there many times and will continue going there. I knew Max the Gorilla for many years.
I find its a good walk about, we don't do the tuk tuk so we can linger longer where our interest is peaked. Its a beautiful day out, so many animals.

“Sunny day outing for the family”
Reviewed 24 February 2017

The zoo is a large green space in Joburg with lots of animals. It is a great place to have a picnic and entertain kids, there are jungle gyms too. You can see lions close up. It is a large area so plan a bit of a walk and lots of time to see everything.
