Description: The flagship of the Thai Africa Group is undoubtedly Wangthai Sandton which overlooks the prestigious Nelson Mandela Square. The most authentic Thai restaurant outside of Thailand. Wangthai Sandtonalso serves the DIY dining experience: sensational Thai Suki Hot Pot. A culinary concept which dates back over 1 000 years in Asian history, Thai Suki Hot Pot today - continues to tantalise the pallet and tease the senses with its fragrant oriental flavours. Best enjoyed as a group affair; the Thai Suki Hot Pot sees an aromatic broth, brimming with flavourful Eastern ingredients, placed in a pot, and atop an induction stove - within the centre of the table. This simmers away throughout the evening, while guests gentle poach their favourite selection of fresh ingredients. There is very little effort involved, other than to indulge, at leisure, in the refreshingly light tastes of Thailand. Wangthai, invites both businessmen and women, as well as the social sect, to sample this ancient cooking tradition, to which it has added a unique measure of contemporary stylishness.

My partner loves Thai food. We have eaten at Thai style restaurants in the UK and abroad. Is it me, but doesn't every fish cake, satay chicken starter etc taste the same? It seemsn to always be of the same size, consistency and together with a little pot of sauce. Always well presented you know what are going to get - but isn't that the point, sometimes you don't want to know what you are going to get!
I had steak fillets cooked in a piquant "hottish" sauce very tasty, and the rice was, well rice. Very busy and good fast service, nothing out of the ordinary in my book, but fans of Thai will lap it up.

Situated on the popular Nelson Mandela Square, this restaurant enjoys a wonderful location if you have been out and about sightseeing in Joburg and simply want a decent place to eat. The staff was friendly enough, though we found it somewhat strange that the on-duty manager insisted on entering the wifi code in our colleague's phone herself, instead of just letting us know how to log on. Oh well. The menu is diverse enough to offer a good variety of meat, fish, and vegetable dishes. Our problem was that in our party of five, nobody came away overly impressed with the food quality. It was simply so-so. Mind you that each of us ordered a different meal, but it didn't seem to matter whether rice or noodles, chicken or beef, nothing made us want to come back for seconds. We quickly paid our bill and got dessert elsewhere. Now in truth, tourists in South Africa looking for Thai food could surely do worse than this place, but for my colleagues and me, we will likely skip this restaurant the next time we have business in Joburg.

This restaurant had modern decor that was quite chic.
The staff was friendly and the food affordable for the type of meals they offer if you would like to splurge a bit but still not over do it with the spending.
Everything was cooked perfectly and the food was enough for 6 persons. We ordered portions in everything and double portions of rice.
If we had more time here we would definitely visit again.

Sit at the back by the window there is better ambiance.
The sizzling beef was wonderful on the night and rather than rice have a vegetable dish to complement.
