Felt more like being at home.

The tranquil spirit of the area and very welcoming Pam was what made our stay so great. It accommodated our little daughter with a crib of her own.
We enjoyed our private space with garden very much plus the amazing hospitality. I

We definitely recommend this place to anyone with family looking for a stay around craighall park.

I was working in Johannesburg for a month and this lovely little oasis in the vibrant city made me feel like home within a couple of minutes. The location is very safe, both staff and owners are incredible. Whenever I will be back in Jo'burg, this will be my first choise.

Friendly hosts. Very clean welcoming cottage. Enjoyed use of the swimming pool.
Excellent restaurants nearby. Option of self catering or delicious breakfasts as or when you want these. Freshly baked scones. Recommend Amanzi as a great place to stay.

My colleagues and I had a wonderful stay at the Amanzi Guest House. We were working in Johannesburg for two weeks and I’m so pleased we chose the Amanzi over a sterile hotel because it was like a home from home. From the start we were welcomed by the extremely friendly staff and then I was so pleased with my room. It was beautifully laid out, clean and very big. The view across the city from my front door was spectacular, so many trees! I was actually surprised at how tree’d Joburg actually is.
The breakfasts were delicious - whether homemade muesli, or a cooked breakfast and Colleen, Delli and Tabang we’re constantly on hand to make sure we had everything we wanted. We were well looked after.
As it’s winter the nights got cold, but there were enough heaters and blankets in the room to be cosy and the electric blanket was a real treat. Another treat was getting my washing done every few days, I wasn’t expecting that and everything was perfectly pressed and folded.
Before our stay Pam was super helpful at advising places to go and even providing a yoga matt, which was an absolute lifesaver because work was so intense and I didn’t get a lot of time to exercise. So being able to do yoga in my room everyday made things a lot better.
Saying that Pam did tell us about a Parkrun at the local park, which we did. It was amazing! Tough because of the hill, but really beautiful views and there were just over 1000 other runners there! All different abilities and such a great atmosphere. Am so glad I did it, it was really memorable. The venue for it is a very scenic and expansive park, which is about a 15min walk from the Amanzi.
There are lots of great restaurants within a 10 mins cab ride from the Amanzi. Prices are more than reasonable, you can get the best steak on the menu for £12! And it outshines anything I’ve ever tried in the UK or US.
We went to the Rosebank Sunday market which is full of artisan stalls, managed to buy lots of clothes! And the 'Neighbourhood' market in Maboneng is super cool and trendy. It’s like like Brick Lane market in London’s Shoreditch, but ten times trendier and better. A great space to people-watch the cool kids of Joburg!
All in all what was a very intense, but incredible and fun two weeks of work was made even better by staying at the Amanzi and the people who work there.

Dear Deiniolbuxton
Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review first of all, and to really write such a lot of detail about the area, your experience of staying at Amanzi, and your very kind words. All of us at Amanzi feel super happy that you felt welcome and well “looked after” - am delighted you liked our breakfasts and home made muesli especially. I hope I don’t sound conceited when I say that I haven’t bought a better muesli.
It always surprises people that Joburg gets as cold as it does at night. And the difference in temperature once the sun comes out. I think that Joburg climate is a secret gem.
I’m so glad you got to do the Parkrun and found it fun. It’s a real community feel, isn’t it. Another thing I love about Joburg is the friendliness of the people. And then you got to Rosebank market AND Maboneng Neighbourhood Market. All in 2 weeks with a hectic work schedule! I’ve lived in Craighall Park for over 30 years, and continue to find it so central, as you say, to restaurants, shops, and basically to get anywhere.
Thank you for your lovely lovely review, and we really hope to have you stay at Amanzi when next you are in Joburg, either for work or leisure. Perhaps choose Summer so you can lounge in our salt water pool, or share a glass (or two) on our deck.
Warm regards
Pam

The Amanzi is a very pretty guesthouse and the owners and staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to help you. I stayed here for business and the first day Pam kindly showed me around and let me know where the park the gym and the shopping centre is (all around 10-15min walks away). The rooms are spacious and clean it is good for a single traveller or a couple I think families could stay but it might be tight if you are more than 4. I would definitely stay again you have a small kitchen with fridge, microwave and kettle (no toaster though) so you get the independence of being able to do your own shopping but there are eateries within walking distance or Uber ride away so you can still go out to eat. There is parking on site and a pool and garden there are two friendly dogs which was not a problem but may be if you get nervous with dogs. It was a lovely stay for me I was busy with work so couldn’t experience everything Amanzi had to offer but I would definitely revisit.

Hello ak648
I missed seeing you had written a review, and apologise profusely for not responding sooner. I so appreciate guests taking the time and trouble to write a review, so I' m feeling really bad about not responding to yours. Thank you for a lovely review, and i hope its helpful to other guests reading it, to reassure them that Amanzi is a great place to stay! We feel lucky that we are so central to shops, eateries, the gym and the park- which i dont think you had time to walk in.. By the way, the toaster was tucked up in the cupboard. Hoping you come and stay with us again so you can experience more of what we offer - perhaps a drink on the deck, or a barbecue around the pool
Warm regards

The establishment is well looked after by a pleasant couple with their assistance who are always available to assist with any sort of query. The guest house is in a peaceful suburb that affords one an opportunity to feel far away from the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg, yet all the necessities are within close distance. The premises of the guest house feel extremely safe and I would certainly enjoy another stay in future.

Room tip: Balcony overlooking the front yard garden.
