We had the opportunity to stay overnight at the EAGLE's CRAIG lodge in the Shamwari Game Reserve and with that made three tours (twice in the evening and once early morning) and it was just spectactular - it was our first safari ever and we were lucky as the ranger was very good. He worked well with this colleagues who were also driving guests around in the park, and we got to see all of the big five, even the shy leopard.
On top of that, we were extremely lucky as we got to experience mating lions!
So all in all, a great experience that I can recommend.

Myself & my Husband recently stayed at Eagles Crag for 4 nights as part of our Honeymoon & it was incredible.

From start to finish all of the team went above an beyond to make our stay perfect. Picnic lunch in the bush & "superior sun-downers" far exceeded our expectations.

It was also my birthday during our staff. The chefs were kind enough to make me a birthday cake & all came out of the kitchen to sing happy birthday to me which was so lovely.

Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor, I was so happy that we got Mino as our Ranger, he did not disappoint!

Mino's knowledge, professionalism and humour made every outing an absolute pleasure. I could sit and listen to his exciting stories about animal encounters all day!

His attention to detail was outstanding, he has the ability to give you the greatest viewings on every single game drive and was never in a rush to get back!

Thank you to all of the team at Eagles Crag you do an amazing job!

Special thank you to Mino for all your hard work, we hope to be back to visit one day :)

Plenty of animals to see while driving around and the rhinos do not seem to be afraid of the cars as they amble up really close to the cars. If we were of the daring kind, we would have wound down the car window to touch the one that came right up to our car....but that would not be smart.

Fun little drive and a nice restaurant half way through for some coffee and a snack.

Overall the reserve is great and you do see lots of animals. It takes time and on some drives you may only see one type of animal and your experience depends on luck and your ranger. I think they should have spotters out to help locate the animals. We were regularly back at the lodge early so the three hour drives they promise do not always materialise which was disappointing. Sometimes it seemed the ranger was more interested in getting photos than making sure we had the best experience. Bayete Lodge needs an overhaul. The service was poor the food average. We went for the animals and they were great but it wasn’t the luxury experience we had hoped for.

Dear Ptuji,

I would first like to thank you for your honest comments. We truly appreciate constructive feedback, as this is the only way we can improve our service and guest experience.

I would also like to apologise that we clearly fell way below your expectations and did not deliver on the service and hospitality that we are so proud of at Shamwari. I can assure you that your experience is certainly not the norm.

I would like reassure you that we have taken your comments and feedback most seriously, discussed in detail with the lodge manager and staff at Bayethe, and taken proactive steps to rectify some of the issues. With your honest feedback, this can only assist us in improving the service we deliver to our guests. We have also put additional measures in place to ensure that some of the service issues you experienced, do not reoccur.

We are closing Bayethe for two months in May to do a full soft refurbishment, including new tents, new bar lounge and reception area as well as a new restaurant.

Thank you again for your feedback and we sincerely hope that we can have the opportunity to host you again at Shamwari Private Game Reserve.

Yours sincerely,

Claire Radloff

We had the most amazing time. Fantastic accommodation, food, and game drives. Our Ranger Mino was exceptional. We saw everything during our 4 game drives plus a night drive. We also visited the born free foundation.
