Stayed here for a single night on a business trip, which was booked through a travel agent. Guesthouse itself was average and I have no real complains re the basic, but sufficient facilities, BUT...
When we tried to check in the receptionist claimed that she never received confirmation of our booking and in reaction to a request from me to check in at own cost (was already late & wasn't in the mood to look for alternative accommodation) she stated that they have no rooms available for the night. Subsequently contacted the booking agent who had a heated telephonic discussion with reception and eventually the COOK (!) who joined the discussion suggested that two rooms "just became available" and they'll prepare them for us. Just to be handed our keys and walk into clean, empty rooms... Turned out there were only two other guests except us for the night!
So why all the lies and very unprofessional behavior...? Your guess is as good as mine - were the personnel just too lazy to accommodate two more guests or are they trying to take advantage of corporate travelers who don't follow-up on payments...?
Needless to say, the dishonesty left a very bad taste and we will never stay there again.

Room Tip: Choose a different guesthouse!

We have always stayed here when we come visit from Australia since 2010 and each time it gets better and better!

Friendly staff, beautifully kept grounds. Modern decor.

I have no idea what these other reviews are talking about.

This place is everything you need and more!

Breakfast is fantastic. Close to Vincent's shopping complex.

I was placed at this guesthouse by a company as the photos on the website gave a great impression, but what a disappointment!
Cleanness = 0 - Dirty (filthy) chairs in reception, dinning room
Maintenance = 0 - Bath cracked, curtains not working, broken chair on patio., etc.
Food = 1, platted bantu food, cheapest possible quality of sausages, etc..
Service = 1, Friendly but incapable to live up to a 4 start standard, Requested extra milk for coffee delivered a cup of milk (do not have a jug)
Had to request small plates at each breakfast
My star rating = maybe 1 star!

The Hubby and I lost a couple hours in Umtata due to the terrible road conditions and had to make an impromptu stop in East london on our way to Mossel bay. We were grateful for a room for the night. The room was neat and tidy and shower very spacious. Rates were reasonable. The only major problem was the thin walls, which allowed us to hear everything going on around us.
