This museum is such a treasure! We enjoyed milling around for a couple of hours learning about the history of the area & admiring the collections from the past. The mural leading to the downstairs area was GREAT! And the buildings outside were interesting.

This is an old time Alaskan museum filled with history about Wasilla and the Mat Valley. The museum has a display
of old town buildings that were moved to the site over the years to preserve them. The museum it's self is located in one of the old logs cabins (house) from the early days and asks for a $2.00 fee to help preserve the site.
In the summer every Wednesday 10am-2pm is the local farmers market. You can't miss it as it is on Main Street across from the Post Office. This is a great way to spend the day and learn about Old Wasilla.

I brought a 97 year old gentleman to this place. He completely enjoyed it. The only downfall for him was all the walking up and down the sloped walkway. We were very limited to the area that he could explore. Inside the store area there was free coffee for him to enjoy and sit down and rest. It is beautiful up there. If you have never been it is worth the trip. You can pay to go on a tour or you can do a lot of sight seeing on your own.

It was a nice place to stop and learn about local history. The snowflake exhibit was interesting as well. The two men at the desk recommended several things for us to do in town. We drove up to Wasilla not really having a plan, after leaving the museum we had a full list of things to do. The best day of the trip was spent in Wasilla.

What a treat for $3.00! Well done local history with nice clean exhibits. Very well maintained grounds and historical buildings. Loved the snowflake exhibit. Crafts free for kids. Simple gift shop. Nice history of independence mine and Wasilla. Would take family to again. Nice area for a picnic or just walk over to the Kraft moose sub shop. Simple pleasant trip.
