We booked through Royal Caribbean but it was fabulous. Driving through Hoonah into Back Country was very peaceful and our guide provided excellent information on the area since he lives in Hoonah year round. We got to see two large bears while on our driving tour and whale pods in the bay on our way back. Great trip overall!

We chose the advanced kayaking trip for our excursion during our NCL cruise. We chose this particular outing because it offered single kayaks and a longer trip. Ended up there were not enough singles so we volunteered to go in a double--and that was fine. Our guide was Cody. He was helpful in getting us suited up and set for the water. We had so much fun the trip seemed short. We hoped to see wildlife but only saw bald eagles. We did get a little tide pool education and learned about the edibles every Hoonah kid knew to look for when the tide was out. Sea asparagus and all the crawlies living under the rocks, for example.

We went for Neighbor Day. We had so much fun! The ATV was great and the zipline was exhilarating! Everyone was pleasant and made us feel at home. A beautiful place to explore! Will definitely be going back!

I loved this place. If you are looking for a bustling village with lots of souvenir shops, adjust your thinking. This is an opportunity to brush against a local people, the Tlingit. There are touristy things to do (worlds highest and longest zipline, some shops, a couple of restaurants that are set up for tourists, etc.). We took the Jeep excursion with a local fellow, De'Andre. I don't know which I enjoyed the most, the incredible scenery or spending time with De'Andre. He shared and told stories about himself and his people and culture. It left me wanting to sit and talk to him all day long. This young man sent me into a couple of days of soul searching when I learned how he is supporting his culture, his community, his people, etc. If you are lucky enough to go on a tour with him, get ready to be impressed.
