Stopped in after taking a walking art tour in San Jose.
The collection is small but interesting. You likely don't need to budget more than an hour or 2 max.
This museum has great space for expos and they are always updating. I got to see some of the artists that came to FID
Have a couple hours to enjoy the east side of San Jose's downtown area , this is the place. Non touristy and beautiful and inspired works by local artists. Be sure to enjoy the colorful bay of hammocks and relax.
If you're into contemporary art, this is the best you can get in Costa Rica! I went there twice in 2014 and I really enjoyed both visits. Not a very big exhibition, but really good quality. Enjoy!
Amazing Multi-media exposition revolving around the effects of the US vs USSR cold war on Central America. So moving - so amazing - I cant say enough - you must see it!
We saw the exhibit Trees Remember Too by Swiss-Tico artist, Niklaus Manuel Güdel. The exhibit aims to impress upon the viewer nature's force in withstanding war's destruction.
Set inside an oil tank, the hollowness of it contrasted with tree trunk rings made me feel how singularly oppressive bombs can be. Yet the tree rings representing nature are a reminder that while humans, and usually the male gender, can be the source of such havoc including the seeming obliteration of it, nature doesn't disappear but rather remains and restores its dominance in the long run.
