My partner and I flew into San Jose and booked a night at Hotel Presidente before proceeding to Arenal. I chose Hotel Presidente because I read the reviews and discovered that it was central to almost everything in San Jose. It is located right on the pedestrian section of Avenida Central where there are many choices for food and groceries. Plaza de la Cultura is also a couple of blocks away, as well as Teatro Nacional. Esquina de Buenos Aires (best steaks-our favorite restaurant) is also a short walk away.

We arranged for an airport pickup with the hotel which took a while to arrive since the company that they outsourced had engine trouble and had to do some repairs but that was fine. Checking in at the reception was very efficient and the lobby staff are always so friendly. The exchange rate at the hotel is also reasonable-much better than the rate at the airport, to be honest. A few weeks prior to the trip I requested that we be booked in a room with a king sized bed and on a higher floor since I read that that specific area of the city tends to be loud and busy. It was quiet in San Jose during our entire stay, probably because it was low season (late May), but they accommodated our request anyway and put us in a room with a king sized bed and on the highest floor. The receptionist also gave us a map of the area marked with places of interest (museums, shopping, restaurants), which we used as a guide during our entire stay. That was very helpful!

The buffet breakfast was great, with a lot of variety consisting of local food as well as continental options. We were very satisfied with our stay here and had also slept well since the bed was quite comfortable.

Overall this is a great hotel and we would definitely want to stay here again the next time we come to Costa Rica!

I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into this hotel. I was very nervous as I chose the hotel from a website without a personal recommendation. It was a very trendy hotel with a very reasonable price. Very clean with a very helpful and friendly staff. I made an appointment there for my very first massage. She was excellent.

You got a breakfast buffet each morning that was very good with a great variety of items. We had dinner a couple of nights and we really enjoyed the food.

We booked a sightseeing trip with City Square Tours. The guide was very informative and showed that he really enjoyed living in Costa Rica.

I would definitely stay here again. Located on Central avenue where you could shop for days.

After a few years not having had the chance staying here, I was finally able to make it back.

My airport pick up was perfect, we were 45 minutes late coming from Mexico DF the driver was waiting for us, helpful and friendly as one would expect from every one. It took us around 30 minutes to the hotel and yes it was mid-night and no traffic at all.

Arriving at the hotel with its new entrance, check-in was fast, very friendly and informative, less than 10 minutes and I was in my 6th floor suite!

The Hotel is presently in a Business and Re-Branding process that is reflected in refreshing new design concept brining "Green" to life and while doing so creating a new space for birds that wake you up in the morning!

The Garden Idea and New trendy 2nd floor Reception space is simply great, back to the basics, ready for the new generation. It is a refreshing to see what one can do with a "different view" trying to make "a point being different" !

Once all the project is completed, the new reception operational, the new garden area connected with the new Bar section and F&B up and running again real Re - positioning has been achieved, moving ever further away from it's past.

The staff is extremely friendly and engaged, the breakfast buffet has a great selection and F&B offers a wide selection of quality products including beers from a local boutique brewery that was excellent.

The room was great, clean well equipped with lots of space to work and a great bath room. air-conditions, TV with english speaking channels and kids selection and free WIFI that actually worked extremely well!

Overall a great experience and what makes the hotel stand out, is the extremely well trained and guided staff who is always trying to make a difference, I shall be back one day soon!

we liked this hotel and would recommend it for an overnighter in san jose. it was clean friendly. the room was not ready when we got there (because we were before regular check in time) and they gave us a free upgrade without us even asking. (we pieced this together by our limited Spanish and listening to their conversation over the walkie talkie) it was a good value.

We stayed a few times while we travelled through Costa Rica and found the hotel to be very nice and accommodating. The rooms on our second time around were enormous. Theres a lot of choice in San Jose, as a lot of US holiday makers fly down here so theres a big market for hotels and apartments, so the city is very busy. However we found this hotel was a bit classier than the rest and enjoyed our stay. It is slightly more than the other hotels. We had to leave really early one morning for some flights to New York and the staff very kindly made us a couple of packed lunches which was very sweet. Wifi was very bad - warning - you will have to go to reception to get the right passcode which was annoying and the whole team had to do it. Small gripe everything else was very good.

Dear Tim L,

Thank you for your review. We aim to be the best option and complement to our beloved City, and your words are a great source of encouragement.

You should have received the password for the wifi upon check in. I apologize that you had to be inconvenienced. I will remind the team that we recognize that good, strong, secure and prompt access to wireless Internet is a priority to our guests and that even the best network in the world is no good to them if we forget to tell them the password.

We hope you had a great flight to NY and that we will have the opportunity to have you as our guest in the near future.

At your service,

Daniel Mikowski
