Holiday Inn San Jose Downtown Aurola
Ranked #24 of 78 Hotels in San Jose
Reviewed 27 February 2017

Spent two nights on 7th floor at this modern and clean hotel. Rooms had AC, elevator cards for security, friendly staff, comfy beds and very good food. We are two buffet breakfasts and had two dinners that were excellent. Nice variety in the buffet and the dinners had tasty pumpkin soup the first evening. We had nothing to complain about at all! Nice park directly in front of hotel and business center for printing out boarding passes and a very accommodating front desk clerk assisted me. Great hotel and customer friendly.

Room Tip: I was worried as I am a light sleeper and was close to elevators; however, the rooms are very quiet...

Arrived somewhat weary after long plane flight from UK. Hotel is situated immediately in front of a pleasant park and bandstand to give an airy aspect to its frontage.
Very friendly people at reception and a surprise when taken to our room. It was very spacious with a separate corner with full size writing desk , sofa etc - quite superb.
Perfectly adequate dining room and upstairs bar made this an excellent place to stay for a few days

A big busy hotel, popular with tour groups. It's a bit impersonal but was basically fine with decent sized rooms, good views out over the city, very comfortable beds, a notice by the bath explaining how to operate the shower (helpful as hotel showers are often very counter intuitive in the way they work!), The pool was also fine though it was a bit weird that the changing room was the toilet for people with disabilities.

Unable to comment on value as it was booked by our tour organisers.

The hotel's great plus point is its location, just a few minutes' walk from the museums and central streets.

The ground floor restaurant is nothing to write home about as far as the buffet was concerned; however a la carte dishes were well prepared and interesting. We tried to order white wine by the glass but they didn't have any (they did look, just to check!) There's a more formal restaurant on the top floor which we didn't try and which other members of our tour group reported to be good.

Although in a great location, this hotel suffers from a lack of customer service. We had booked an executive room (and paid more to do so) but found that there were absolutely no benefits to doing so. The executive lounge was only stocked on our first day and when I asked about it the following days I was given different answers by each of the three people that I talked to (that they would immediately restock it - they did not; that it was never stocked on the weekends; and that it was never stocked period!). That is perhaps a minor aggravation but the real upset came with the attitude and lack of customer service offered by the front desk staff. Our woes only continued as they later messed up our billing and, yet again, treated us with great attitude. I would note that one of the people in our party had retired from working at the front desk of a Holiday Inn so we are sympathetic, if not empathetic, to that position but the attitude given, combined with the lack of paid-for benefits, made this experience unenjoyable.

The room was clean and spacious. Unfortunately, it's getting dated. The carpet has stains, the bathtub's enamel is wearing off, the formerly white towels are greyish. We tried to make coffee in the coffee maker, and had to do some manipulating to get it to work properly. The wall paper is starting to come off. The room staff is friendly.
The location is good if you want to be downtown.
We had breakfast included in our stay...the food was poor, prepared in advance and kept too long under a heat lamp. Coffee was very weak.
