Most memorable vacations begin and end with wonderful people and here the Kamuk shines. Raquel at the front desk is delightful and always a pleasure to deal with whether simply calling for a cab or recommending a local shop or restaurant. The 3rd floor restaurant staff of Oscarre, Leo, and Monica were also fabulous. They took excellent care of us and also our fish! (I did not get the names of the other 2 restaurant staff members and I know I spelled Oscarre wrong. Sorry for both!) The chefs did an amazing job preparing our fresh sea bass 3 different ways. We invited others over to join us and they agreed...very good!

My uncle and I came to Quepos primarily to fish and so we chose to spend 6 nights at the Kamuk because it was close to the marina and more importantly, we wanted to be within walking distance of the shops, restaurants and farmers market around the city. This worked out perfectly for us. Also, just across the street is a very handy grocery store that carries plenty of things you might have forgotten. (Sunblock, shaving cream, etc.) The ice cream shop connected to the hotel become a nightly treat as well!

Our room was on the 2nd floor corner facing the street and directly above the casino. (More on that later) The room was clean, comfortable and we enjoyed the balcony for sunsets and people watching. The air conditioner was not working when we arrived but Raquel sent a maintenance person up immediately and it was fixed in less than 10 minutes. A nice, big shower with plenty of pressure and good sized closet with a safe. (You need to get a key from the front desk.)

I booked a premium room in August of 2016 but when we arrived there seemed to be a bit of confusion regarding my reservation. After a lot of screen scrolling and finally a phone call, i was given a standard room and $5/night deducted from my rate. I'm still not exactly sure why this happened and not a big deal.

My title for this post is "Just shy of wonderful" and the singular reason it's just shy of wonderful is the casino music. I have slept in some crazy places all over the world and so when I chose a hotel in the heart of the city and along the beach/marina walkways I expect outside noise. Cars, buses, scooters and people are all part of the equation and ALL are beyond the control of the hotel and it's staff. What I did not expect was to be directly above the casino and every night around 1 am the music volume would suddenly increase to the point where sleep was very difficult, if not impossible. The "thumping" bass more than the volume was the problem. (The casino is open until 4 am as well.) To be fair, other guests we spoke to said they did not hear the casino music so I'm guessing it mostly affects room 201.

I'm not sure how much influence the hotel has over the casino but the Kamuk's friendly, hardworking staff deserve better than this. The hotel has a great location, wonderful staff, good food and the most reasonable pricing in Quepos. Happy hour on the third floor at sunset is lovely and a great way to wind down the day. I would and will stay at the Kamuk again. I hope the hotel management understands how difficult it is to write a critical comment when someone so enjoys the staff of the hotel.

Thank you to the entire Kamuk staff!

Room Tip: If you need quiet to sleep chose a room by the pool or away from the street.

Staff are really good and security at night keep things safer. Standard rooms are small but good bed. Pool is lovely. The breakfast is amazing. Well kept hotel with extra care taken with flowers, plants. Very clean and painted with artistic/local colour. Locked parking is available 1/2 block away from hotel, difficult to find in the dark.

Open air hallways can be loud at night. Lots of young cliental. Lots of eating places close by. Great fried chicken place close to farmers market.

Room Tip: Some rooms over look a beautiful pool area.

Thanks so much for this great review
Our security guard stay outside watching the cars of some guest who prefer to leave the car in front of the hotel to avoid the 1/2 block walking from the locked parking we have available. We give a map with directions to drive to the parking lot in reception and explain how to get there.

We look forward to another visit soon

Hotel is located in the middle of the city. A LOT OF NOISE, ALL THE DAY AND WHOLE NIGHT. Rooms are very old. Old furniture. Very little pool. Breakfast is minimal and not good. Staff not so helpfull. It is mustly like a guesthouse than a hotel.

Quepos is a very small town only 5 blocks and sometimes can get very noisy, we know that, specially on weekends, the hotel is located in the most important and busy area where tourism from all over the world are buying souvenirs and having fun in the bars and restaurants. We are very sorry for this inconvenience.

The entire hotel have a permanent maintenance plan as every 6 months inspectors from the chain visit us and with those reports we have to invest on keeping the rooms fresh and looking good. We just install new furniture in the lobby area and some rooms, the pool is never full of people because guest prefer to spend the day in some of the 15 beaches nearby.

Our breakfast included is served in Mira Olas Restaurant with ocean view and besides the continental buffet (Bread, Juices, Cerals, Yogourt, Fruits an coffe) we also serve two items from the kitchen Costa Rican Gallo Pinto with eggs or Pancakes with eggs and sausage.

My wife and I stayed at the Best Western Kamuk last week to celebrate our 30th Valentines together! What a wonderful staff! You won't believe what we found in our room upon our arrival - rose petals everywhere!
Great breakfast spot overlooking the Pacific! Easy walk to the fisher pier, Close food options in town.
We wanted a place in old town Quepos with the local crowd - and this was it!

Room Tip: There was street noise for our room's location - but again - we wanted a "downtown" Quepos room. It was great!

Mira Olas Restaurant in the third floor is where breakfast included is served and is the only ocean view restaurant in downtown Quepos.

Hope to see you back soon...
