Casa Anak en Casa Bejuco, two luxurious bungalows, situated in primary rainforest. What can you wish more? Both bungalows consist of a large bedroom with a comfortable doublebed, large bathroom and terrace. Casa Anak has an open kitchen, where it makes so much fun to cook in open air. The vitalising open air shower is the best way to start or finish your day. Don't be surprised if a monkey is watching you. The two bungalows are made in the finest material and form a perfect symbiosis with nature. It makes so much fun to be woken up by just the noise of birds, monkeys and other wildlife. Although no glass is used, the bed and bathroom are totally secured against mosquitoes and other bugs. Both bungalows can be rented separately, but we rented them as a family and also our children (11 and 13 years old) enjoyed it to have their own bungalow. Although a bit afraid in the beginning to sleep alone, they soon enjoyed their independence. Claudine and Ghislain, who are always around, are perfect hosts and do everything to fulfill your wishes. To be recommended: a walk along the paths in the primary rainforest domain, enjoy the view on the Golfe Dulce or the birds (tucans, macaws) from the garden, go to the beautiful beaches, do a snorkelling and/or whale trip, do a two-day hike in Corcovado national park. For all this the hosts will be willing to assist you in organizing. Puri Mas was without doubt the absolute highlight in our amazing Costa Rica trip. One more thing, make sure you have a good 4x4 car to drive to Puri Mas and/or the Osa Peninsula and enjoy the adventure.
Our stay at Puri Mas was perfect. My husband and I discussed it, and we literally could not find anything negative about our 9 days with Claudine and Ghislain. If you are looking for a place that is not a hut with a hammock for backpackers and not a posh resort, but something right in between, this is the place for you. (Actually, it leans more toward resort!)
Located a little over 20 km from Puerto Jimenez, you truly get the full Costa Rican jungle experience. With 22 hectares of mostly undisturbed jungle, you can hike and feel completely disconnected from the touristy bustle of Puerto Jimenez, but also be close enough to take a quick run into town for supplies.
I photograph insects and everyday I found some new and exotic creature just yards from the guest house! Add in the morning visits from the macaws, toucans, and squirrel monkeys, and you might get the suspicion Puri Mas had these wonderful animals on payroll to show up just to thrill you.
If you do feel the need to leave the property, Claudine and Ghislain are more than happy to arrange any tour you may be interested in. This was a nice thing they do for guests that will make your adventures less troublesome.
The guesthouse has a beautiful outdoor kitchen designed to let you experience being surrounded by nature as you cook and eat, but Claudine prepares exceptional meals out of organic ingredients grown right on the property. She even made meals special for my vegetarian preferences.
The house itself is masterfully built. The gorgeous stucco and wood design, and manicured but wild grounds directly around the house, made us almost feel we were being pampered too much for being located in the untamed Osa.
You will need a 4x4 vehicle to reach the property. There is a shallow river river to cross (such fun!) and hilly terrain that a normal car or truck cannot manage.
Puri Mas was an eco-adventurous dream come true. We will most definitely be staying at Puri Mas again!
