Incredible national park. Not very well known but so much more special than Corcovado. Easy access trough hotels like Golfo Dulce Retreat.

Top location for birders. Relatively new NP, quite a bit on old pasture land. Hot and humid, but several endemic species worth seeing.

We walked in the National Park from Esquinas lodge, used Ocelot trail. The trails are not “civilized”, muddy and slippery, so care should be taken while walking. But it is less interrupted natural areas than many others. We saw a number of birds, some frogs, a dwarf squirrel, quite a lot of plants were new to us even though we have visited several places in Costa Rica before that. Real jungle experience and a real respite after Manuel Antonio.

A two hour walk wasn't long enough to see all that this park has to offer in the way of wild life, birds etc. Having a guide with us to point out many of the smaller creatures (frogs etc) was essential. The forest wasn't crowded with people so it made for a very pleasant walk.

Untouched area with mangroves taller than I thought possible. Harvey from Saladero Eco Lodge gave us wonderful tour.
