This hotel is an ideal spot right on the Caribbean. Great for swimming and walking. The beach bar is a treat and the meals are excellent and very good value. The staff are very friendly and helpful. You can see sloths and iguana and lots of birds in the grounds. This was our last long stay before heading home and it was a lovely place to stay. thank you.

Hola. Thanks for taking the time to write some kind words about your stay with us. The staff and I are always eager to show off the highlights of the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica. We are glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, Colin.

If I had to only pick one word, it would be Paradise!!

When we first started planning our vacation, we knew we wanted to find a place that was peaceful, fun, warm feeling, and rejuvenating. I first picked the location, the south Caribbean cost of Costa Rica, then with the help with reviews and some research. I found what seemed at least on paper the perfect place to stay Banana Azul, so we booked our flight, hotel and a driver to pick us up at the Limon airport to drive us to Banana Azul. When we arrived at the hotel immediately we both knew we found what we were looking for, pictures cannot do this place justice its truly amazing. We were greeted by Obed with a warm welcome, all the front desk staff are very knowledgeable and willing to help you with anything you need. Obed started by showing us all around the property, answered any questions we had and gave us a welcome cocktail! We stayed in unit #10 the tropical Bath Suit, it is one of the interior rooms with a very large covered lanai that had a hammock, lounge chairs, outdoor freestanding bath tub and an outdoor shower, our room also had air conditioning. The room meet all our needs, housekeeping did a wonderful job keeping our room nice and clean.

When staying at Banana Azul breakfast is included daily, coffee is provided starting at 5am, not only in the open aired dining room, but on the beach! We would start our morning with coffee beach side then around 6:30 head to the dining area a buffet of fresh fruit, cereal and fresh juice, you then have a choice of 5 breakfast options four that are standard and one that changed daily. The hotel also offers a large lunch menu which we had both in the dinning room and on the beach, our beach server was Tariq, he was very attentive and would do anything for us another great staff member. The dinner menu has 5 options that change daily. We stayed 7 days and never seen the same dinner options. The cooks at the hotel know what they are doing, everything we had there was delicious and served beautifully presented. I must give a big thank you to all the wait staff both dining room and beach they were incredible. One night we were sitting at the bar before dinner and Ronald came over with live fresh Caribbean lobster we asked him for two lobster dinners. It was one of the best lobster dinners we ever had! We want to say thank you to Ronald for making our stay very special.
On our last night, I had a relaxing beach side massage, just like everything it was perfect!
Banana Azul is a real paradise on earth! You can choose to do nothing at all, or book one of many wonderful tours at the in-house tour desk, just let them handle everything and enjoy!

We want to thank everyone at Banana Azul for making this, one of the best vacations we every had!

We will see you soon!!

How often does the actual location look as good as the pictures? This place does. It's beautiful. The rooms, the balcony, the pool, the beach. We loved it. The service was also really great, from the front desk, to the activities desk, to the food and drink service. We had a great stay. They also have good food!

We stayed here for 5 nights in the Sloth cabina and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

It was roasting hot over 42 degrees on each of the days but the ceiling fan and floor fan did the job of keeping the room tolerable to sleep in.

The restaurant was very good and the food was excellent in the hotel with the menu changing daily to keep it fresh.

The beachside sun loungers were lovely and it was nice to be able to have a drink on the beach.

The staff were all friendly and helpful at all times.

You can walk along the beach to Puerto Viejo which takes about 20-30 minutes depending on your speed or alternatively you can get a cab arranged at the reception for $4-$5.

Tip:

If you walk along the path from the restaurant until you get to the beach bar, there is a path going to the left and the right, if you follow the left hand path a short way down until you get to a small clearing on the left where a road goes into a villa or other property we frequently saw Sloths here.

We saw both the two toed and three toed sloths here and on one occasion saw 5 sloths in that area all in separate trees at the same time, they often sit in the crown of the coconut tree or wrapped around one of the arms of the Y shape in a normal tree.

The best time to see them moving is around sunset, we went back a few times during the day to check on them and saw one moving around climbing to another tree at this time.

Banana Azul is everything you want a small, intimate, tropical resort to be. Gorgeous location, beautiful gardens, excellent rooms, immaculate, great food, friendly staff, and friendly owner. The attention to every detail - without being fussy or precious- is evident. I was sad to leave and hope to return soon. Can't say enough positive things about my experience here.
