Hotel located outside of Puerto Vierjo in a jungle like garden.

The staff and the owner are very welcoming and will help you make the most of your stay.

The rooms are located in individual bungalow in a woody-balinese like style. The common area are very nice to enjoy breakfast or a drink.

In my opinion, this place - especially the room and bathroom - would benefit from some renovation works. The beds were worned out.

Large swimming pool and in house restaurant.

The artistic details and wooden finishes make Hotel Shawandha Lodge one of the coziest places I have ever been to.
The bungalows are charming, rustic and elegant at the same time, there you won’t find A/C or TV as this is an ecofriendly lodge and they use the natural ventilation through the open windows. Our cabaña had a terrace with a hammock, the shower is delicately decorated with colorful tiles resembling indigenous artwork.
I loved the hotel set up! it is located in a beautiful area surrounded of very tall trees where the monkeys hang out and occasionally throw seeds to you (watch out! Ha, ha) yet it is very accessible as there are very well-maintained paths to get everywhere while you feel like in the middle of the jungle.
It has a nice pool but for me the highlight is “Chiquita Beach” which is located just across the street and is one of the most beautiful and tranquil beaches.

They have a great atmosphere, nice service, and good food. Nice selection of sea food.

The grounds are well manicured and a nice settings.

You do not need to be a hotel guest to eat at the restaurant or bar.

But the pool looked good, the wifi was on and the meal was very good, a bit expensive but spicy swear bass was fresh cooked well and the crispy bread with cream cheese a highlight.
Getting the bill to pay took forever though.

We stayed here for 6 nights toward the end of our two week trip to Costa Rica. Travelling with our 9 year old daughter we all shared a beautiful lodge which had a super king bed and two single sofas.
The room was cooled using a ceiling fan and this was more than adequate for us. The bathroom and shower were lovely - spacious and refreshing. Not entirely enclosed from the outside, but the mosquito mesh kept us itch-free (in the room at least).
Food is excellent - breakfasts of lots of fresh fruit, eggs, toast, marmalade and jam. We ate in the restaurant most evenings and the food was superb - beautifully prepared and seasoned before being presented.
Staff are attentive and helpful - offering to show us things we could do and when there were snakes or frogs to look at.
Maho - the lady who built and owns this place clearly had a vision 20 years ago and has employed a team who help with this vision. From the beautiful flooring in each lodge to her home made chutney, Maho's passion is in abundance.
I hope to return ..... and, once again, experience a stay in this Paradise.
