Six small villas around a lovely pool comprise Villas Kalimba. They’re comfortable and immaculate, with kitchenettes that would be great for a longer stay - our stay was only overnight. No views but excellent beach access - 1 minute walk to beach. Five minute walk to all the restaurants. We spent a quiet, peaceful night.

Surrounded by all sort of forest plants and flowers, bungalows are spacious, clean and fully equipped with utility room, air-con, ceiling fans and full set of kitchen appliances. The resort, small and quiet, is 1-minute walk from Samara beach, a 4-km wide stunning sandy beach. Roberto, the owner, cooks dinners for the guests occasionally and you will not be disappointed by the quality of the Italian-style food (I was amazed by the starters!).
I would recommend the dolphin's boat tour, horse back riding and snorkelling activities.
Note for runners. I mostly enjoyed 3 routes from Villas Kalimba: sea-side beach run(7k), playa Carillo and back (12k) and playa Buena Vista (8k) - optionally consider a trail diversion to a fantastic view point (quite hilly).

Our family of 4 stayed in Villas Kalimba over March break. The Villas are set around a great little swimming pool. Each one has a hammock at the front big enough to fit an adult and children. The separate bedrooms for the kids was awesome because it allowed us to have a great evening after the kids were asleep... places like this make traveling with a 4 and 6 year old a totally enjoyable experience. The owner cooked a great meal for everyone one of the nights we were there and when we had some mosquitos the first night he had the cleaners put little plugs into the outlets which helped to keep them down for the rest of our stay. The place was truly beautiful and a great way to end our travels throughout Costa Rica.

Special recommendation to use the surf school across the road if you do want to surf. They teach a great lesson for people of all ages and then let you use the surf boards without extra cost for the duration of your stay. Other people might cost a bit less for the lesson but then you will have to rent your board each day you come back.

On our 9th visit to Samara we stayed at Villas Kalimba and loved it so much we are booking again for next year. The rooms are immaculately clean and the service is excellent with a perfect location in the middle of town and directly across the street from the beach. This accommodation is ideal for families, couples or groups traveling together.

The "hotel" is comprised of 6 private villas nestled among beautiful plants and trees set around a beautiful pool within a walled compound for extra safety (not that you need it in Samara). There is a small restaurant and a bar that works on the honour system! If you need a beer or glass of wine late at night, help yourself.

Villas Kalimba is safe and private and you will not be disappointed. I recommend it without reservation.

Thank you Roberto, Diego and all the staff for your friendly and hospitable service.

Can't wait to see you again next year!

Love,
S+A+L+B

Villas Kalimba is perfectly located the heart of Samara, steps away from an incredible clean and beautiful beach. On the beach are plenty of cafes and restaurants to get drinks and food. It is also very close to the center of town. In town are many more restaurants, bars and shopping. We stopped in one of the local markets and picked up bottles of water, milk, coffee, wine and other supplies for the room

When we arrived Villas Kalimba we were met by Diego, who was extremely friendly and helpful. Our family - My Wife and two boys ages 12 and 13 - stayed in a 2 bedroom 2 bath villa. The Villas have rustic charm, with lots of light, wood and tile. It was very clean and comfortable. Each BR had AC and a ceiling fan. We also had a stove, coffee maker and fridge plus dishes and utensils. Our Boys liked that they had free WIFI too.

Each Villa has a little out door porch area with a hammock, some chairs and a table to eat breakfast at. The Villas are quite private and surround a small pool. There are some lounge chairs around the pool. I believe all the Villas were occupied but it was never crowded.

Beside the pool is an open air kitchen and dining area with tables and chairs. The owner, Roberto is from Italy, and a very good chef. The night we arrived Roberto made a fantastic Italian dinner for all the guests. Fresh Ceviche and appetizers, salad, and pasta with shrimp. He also served plenty of good wine. Be sure to let him know a day ahead if you want a table.

Also, Roberto will serve a nice breakfast of coffee, eggs, pancakes, bacon and fresh fruit and juice each morning

If you decide to go out for dinner there are several great options outside including; Locanda, Gusto Beach, Villas Verdes and others. We liked Locanda for drinks and watching the sunset. Gusto Beach serves excellent food and a great drink menu. They had live music the night we went. Diego will help you make reservations.

Our boys rented surfboards from C&C Surf shop directly across the street from Kalimba. $10 per day. We did a kayak / Snorkel trip to Chora Island. We booked it through Samara Adventure Co.

All in All we will definitely go back to Villas Kalimbe and next time we will bring friends and family too.

Room Tip: Not much other than the local howler monkeys and horses
