“Outstanding Experience Overall”
Reviewed 16 December 2016 for a stay in December 2016

My wife and I recently stayed here for our honeymoon. We stayed for a week and because of the location we were able to make many day trips to any attraction we wanted. Esteban was most helpful in pointing us in the right direction throughout the entire trip. He and the staff are very helpful and always there for you. We took a horse back ride right from the ranch there one morning, it was amazing. They have plenty of beautiful horses for every type of rider. On the horses we rode all throughout the Costa Rican country side, through a river, through sugar cane fields, and best of all we rode our horses down a narrow creek under some trees where a huge pack of Howler monkeys started howling right above us. They sounded like dinosaurs and were one of the loudest, rawest things we have ever heard. We also took the ATV ride from right there at La Finca all the way up the side of the mountain to a natural hot spring. It was about as much fun as we have ever had, just cruising through all kinds of Costa Rican nature to get to the most romantic hot springs for a dip, and some of the best Pina Coladas in the world. Both the horseback ride and the ATV were lead by Danny, and were private with just the three of us. Danny is outstanding. It was a week of Paradise in the true Tranquil nature of Costa Rica, where huge Iguanas, and Toucans were visible frequently from the balcony of our unit. Each Unit is extremely private which is great. We will be back someday, Highly recommended !!

“Beautiful Setting, Friendly Staff, Absolute Perfection!”
Reviewed 25 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Staying at La Finca was exactly as all the previous reviews stated...absolutely amazing! The Villa was just as described with one large bedroom with a king size bed, a private bathroom attached to the bedroom, a beautiful balcony with a stunning view of a volcano and the grazing horses, our own kitchen, and a parking spot. The room had really great wi-fi and satellite television and it had AC. The property was gated and the villa alarmed and we always felt completely safe. There is also a safe in the room for passports and other valuables. The villa was decorated beautifully, it was kept spotless, and there were no maintenance issues. Also, they will do laundry for you.

Esteban and his staff were beyond helpful and extremely kind and friendly. Esteban gave me tips on the rest of my trip and secured my rental car for the entire trip at an extremely great value! Best price of everything I checked. He also sent us perfect directions, it was easy to find. As most people did we took the horse back riding trip and ATV ride to the hot spring with Dany. Dany is from Platanar (the location of the villa) and showed us all the local farms and country side. The horse stables are spotless and you can tell the horses are exceptionally cared for. We were beginners at horse-riding and felt comfortable and safe but we still did some trotting and cantering and a few challenging paths. The ATV ride to the hot spring was my favorite...the hot spring was not super touristy so it was quiet and peaceful. They also booked the BEST zip-lining and rappelling course for us; even the locals said it is better than all the others (arenal mundo aventura). We basically had a private zip-lining tour because Esteban knew exactly what to book for us.

The only thing I was worried about was that we were a little ways away from La Fortuna and a lot of reviews told me not to drive at night. I was worried we would get stuck at the Villa at night; but the road to La Fortuna is paved really well with no potholes; so you can easily drive around the villa at night and all the way to La Fortuna (about 30 mins). Plus there are restaurants and a supermarket only about 5 - 10 minutes down the road. I highly recommend you stay here instead of the touristy areas of La Fortuna (I was so glad we did). You are close enough to do the touristy things; but you feel like you are getting an authentic experience as well.

“Beautiful ranch with friendly people.”
Reviewed 18 July 2016 for a stay in January 2015

This is long overdue, but wanted to share the experience my husband and I shared. We were in Costa Rica on our Honeymoon, staying at 4 different locations and places. This was the only rental that we stayed at and we were very happy with our decision to do this. The place was beautiful, it felt like we had it to ourselves (at least the buildings we were in were to ourselves!) and it wasn't too far from La Fortuna downtown and other excursions.

To start, Esteban was very helpful in getting us a car rental and ended up booking it for us. And although he wasn't in town for our stay, he still responded via email and his staff that were there to help us were very welcoming.

We booked a ATV excursion with him and it was awesome! It didn't feel like a crowded tourist excursion and the woman who guided us was amazing. I feel terrible I can't remember her name, it's been so long and my memory is bad, but she works at the ranch and does horse tours as well. We started near the stables where we got to check out the animals, then she took us through pineapple fields, up the mountain, and to the Hot Springs. I got so dirty from the mud so you know it was a blast.
We stayed in a villa with 3 buildings. Since it was only my husband and I, we only utilized 2 of them because 2 are for sleeping and the center one has a kitchen and lounge area. The place was clean and nice. We even went to a store nearby, bought stuff to make dinner and breakfast and cooked a few times while we were there. The cleaning staff cleaned up after us so that was a plus.
There was a dog (again I forget his name) that ran around the property and greeted us in the morning. He was adorable!
If you are looking for a place that is away from the noise of touristy areas, then this place is for you. Close enough to things to still do excursions, eat, and shop, but far enough to have some peace and relaxation. We want to come back.

“Service, Service, Service and Amazing Facilities”

I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a beautiful, peaceful, authentic Costa Rican stay with amazing hospitality. The Villa is close to most activities but away from the touristy areas. Since 90% of the tourism comes from the USA and so did we, we wanted something among the local people.

After speaking to Esteban on the phone, we opted to take his suggestions to have a driver pick us up at the airport and to make no plans prior to our arrival.

Dany was waiting for us at the airport and immediately made us feel like we were family. The terrain to the Villa was so incredible and diverse that I forgot to take pictures. Dany took us to his favorite small shop where we had the most delicious cheese we had during our 8 day vacation. He stopped a couple other places for photo ops and even took us to the local market to get food for our stay.

The security fence to the property opens to a palm tree lined and very rocky road that winds around to the Villa – Ilan, Ilan. (There are other Villas on the property) The Villa consists of a spacious bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and a bathroom that has a huge shower (Huge). The sliding glass doors on the front of the Villa open onto a bamboo roofed Veranda. On this deck is a hammock, two really nice wooden chairs and a wooden dining table that seats four.

Another set of sliding doors open in to the kitchen (a separate room off the Veranda) that has everything you need – full refrigerator, stove (no oven) microwave and sink with all dishes and utensils plus dish soap, towels, etc.

The Villa sits on a hill overlooking a meadow that has horses milling around and is backed by beautiful mountains jutting up in the sky. It is surrounded by a variety of tropical trees and plants that are alive with rainforest creatures. Every morning we welcomed the sunrise with tea on the Veranda and the most amazing orchestra of birds and bugs. We saw lots and lots of birds with Toucans making an almost every day visit – one day I saw a flock of nine ! At night we listened to the bugs and watched lightening storms over the hills. We were lucky to have tropical rain showers every day (except one).

The horse stables are really nice and house several horses – you can visit the horses anytime you want and go for a ride as well. They also have 2 big hogs and some peacocks.

The tile pool is in a gorgeous park like setting, surrounded by palms, and the water is very refreshing. It’s lovely at night with all the sounds and just the lighting of nature.

The housekeepers kept our place neat and clean with daily visits.

Dany was our guide on our ATV ride to a local hot springs. We love Dany - he is awesome. He is very nice, very funny, extremely accommodating and he knows EVERYTHING and he sees EVERYTHING (ie: reclusive wildlife, tiny bugs, the plethora of bird species) !!! This was seriously my favorite part of the trip. Two or so hours on the ATVs – we saw a sloth and monkeys and bugs and birds. We zoomed past sugar cane fields and sloshed through mud.

At the springs, We walked through a rain forest with a HUGE downpour although we didn’t get wet because we were protected under the forest canopy. The hot springs are family owned and AMAZING with 6 separate pools of varying degrees from lukewarm to boiling lava hot. Big tropical birds, big bullfrogs and lots of bugs – not on you, just making a lot of music! They serve a few food items and cocktails. Then a hour ride back in the dark. Soooo fun !!

Another plus - Esteban had our rental car waiting at the Villa when we arrived. Each day we would call Esteban or Dany so they could direct us to the day’s activities. We just told them what we wanted to do and they said "go here". Some days we asked - what should we do today and they would say "do this".

Esteban will tell you where you realistically can and can't go to in a day. He'll set up your GPS and give you handwritten notes as well as vocal instructions. Getting from place to place here can be a bit challenging. When you get into towns, many of the street have no names! The roads are well maintained but narrow, steep and windy with one lane bridges plus you are sharing your space with big rigs.

Esteban and Dany directed us to activities we wanted to do but that were handled by others – most of them were paid for and put on our bill which was really convenient to pay in one lump sum at the end.

Activities from the farm: ATV to Hot Springs, Horseback Riding, Hot Air Balloon Rides

Activities nearby – Hanging Bridges, Waterfalls, River Canoeing, White Water Rafting. Ziplining – if you want to do it – Esteban can hook you up ! Some things we found in the guidebook that looked fun were hours away and Esteban let us know that we could do the same activities locally.

When we left both Esteban and Dany made sure to come to the Villa and personally thank us and say goodbye. It's a full on class act!

A great big air kiss to Esteban, his wife, Dany, and the rest of the staff who made this a most incredible trip ! Pura Vida !

“Best place in Costa Rica!”
Reviewed 6 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

INCREDIBLE. This place is BEAUTIFUL. Our only regret is we didn't stay longer. Gorgeous house, bathroom made out of travertine, huge bed, full kitchen, big nice showers, beautiful ranch with a pool, etc. We went to Nosara beach for a few days and my wife and I wish we would have stayed at the ranch for the week. It was awesome!
