Our family of four (two adults and two 17-year old boys) stayed at the Villa Hermosa for four nights at the beginning of August 2018 and we had a fabulous experience! The pictures do not do the villa justice – it is even more beautiful when you are actually there. It is also very relaxing and homey. After our first night staying there, two of us said that we woke up in the middle of the night and forgot we were on vacation because we felt so at home.
Judah was wonderful answering our questions before we arrived and helping us plan our itinerary. We rented a car in San Jose (Adobe Rent a Car with a discount from the website mytanfeet.com). Judah’s directions were great and his suggestion to use Waze for navigation was good. He was in touch with us using WhatsApp before we left the U.S. and after we arrived and that really helped. We stopped at the Super Cristian #4 grocery store before arrival which was a good suggestion. We actually found we liked the MegaSuper grocery store more (better selection of milk). Also, the small grocery store in Monterrey was quite nice.
The house and the grounds are amazingly beautiful. We loved hanging out there when we weren’t out on an excursion. It was fun to cook in the outdoor kitchen with the wonderful grill. The bar area was super nice for breakfast and snacks. The curtains that surround the kitchen/dining/living area were very functional. We opened them in the morning to let in light and to enjoy the beautiful foliage and then closed them when we left the grounds and at night when it was nice to have “walls.” The bedrooms and bathrooms were very nice. It was great to have a/c in the main bedroom. We hand washed a few clothes and moved the drying rack into the bedroom to hang the clothes on. The cooler/drier air in the bedroom helped the clothes dry – even during the day when we turned the a/c off. FYI, there is some traffic noise near the main building, but we just tuned it out and it didn’t bother us.
One of the best parts of the villa is the pool! Oh my gosh! The pool is beautiful and the waterfall is very nice but it is the water in the pool that is truly amazing -- it felt like cool mineral water. The water felt so wonderful on our skin -- I have never swam in a nicer pool! The pool is also long enough to swim laps. The deck around the pool is so nice – we ate breakfast there a couple mornings and hung out there in the evenings. The furniture and umbrellas are nice, and the deck was relaxing, spacious, and beautifully lit at night. To have the pool all to ourselves just put it way over the top!
Another part of the villa we enjoyed was the extra building with the pool table. We ended up playing pool almost every night and had a blast. Playing pool turned out to be a nice family activity that we all enjoyed.
Our activities included the Mistico Hanging Bridges, La Fortuna Waterfall hike, The Springs Resort and Spa Club Rio 2-day activity pass, and the Rainforest Chocolate Tour. The Hanging Bridges were very nice but the tour kind of overlapped with a zipline tour we did later on our vacation (I highly recommend El Santuario Canopy Adventure Tour near Manuel Antonio). The waterfall hike was pretty neat – and the restaurant at the top of the falls is wonderful (order a smoothie!). The Springs Resort was beautiful and amazing. The mineral pools are fabulous (we especially liked the Perdido Springs group – make sure to try out the monkey slide!) and the activities were great. We did horseback riding and tubing. The people who work there are wonderful – they pointed out a sloth to us while we were horseback riding, and one of the horseback guides said it was the best job ever. The horses seemed well cared for and the people there really seemed to love working there. The tubing guides were awesome – my tube flipped me out in the rapids and I had to be rescued. The guides were excellent at rescues and very nice. I would highly recommend the 2-day resort pass. We enjoyed our second day just lounging in the mineral pools and certainly felt like we got our money’s worth.
One of the best parts of our trip was the Rainforest Chocolate Tour. Everyone gets to participate in making chocolate starting with the cacao beans and ending up with a chocolate drink, warm brownie-batter type chocolate, and eating chocolate with toppings out of spoons! This was really a fun tour. Our 17-year olds really liked it. My husband, who never eats chocolate, was gobbling the chocolate and we were all laughing at him!
We had an amazing time at the Villa Hermosa. The Villa is great for people who want to be in peaceful surroundings and away from the crowds. It is remote, but worth it to be able to stay in a beautiful house and have the fabulous grounds to enjoy. Judah was so helpful and we feel like he is our friend now. This place is really magical and we have many great memories from our time there.
My family of 4 had a fun time staying at Villa Hermosa. It was great to have a place to call our own after a day of adventure around the La Fortuna area. The pool was a nice refresher after a day of exploring. Judah was super helpful with recommending and booking activities for us – we just told him what type of adventure we were up for and he’d help us out. Extremely easy access the to The Springs with their amazing hot springs to soak in along with activities such as horseback riding, wildlife viewing and hiking. Well worth the day pass. We split our Costa Rica vacation into two parts – one a Resort and the other here at the Villa Hermosa. Really glad we did this, as having someone like Judah around for suggestions, along with the peace and relaxation that comes with having your own place was a great balance. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the La Fortuna area that’s also looking for a beautiful, clean and well maintained place to relax at the end of the day.
We had a wonderful time. Villa Hermosa was so charming - it was a secluded oasis with amazingly beautiful grounds. There was so much nature - birds, frogs, etc. And bats at night kept the mosquitos away! We had so much fun playing pool and darts in the game room, playing horseshoes in the backyard and swimming in the pool! Judah helped us plan all of our activities - rafting, zip line, hot springs, hanging bridge hour. He knew the best ones and made all our reservations for us. Every single excursion was perfect! I’d certainly recommend Villa Hermosa to anyone traveling to Costa Rica.
We had such an amazing experience at Villa Hermosa. The grounds and the rooms were so beautiful and tidy. It is clear that Judah and Michele and the staff take pride in the beauty of the property. We had so much fun cooking in the outdoor kitchen and eating an outdoor dining room. In the mornings we enjoyed the pool and gardens. In a short drive, we were in the quaint village of Monterrey or, if you go the other way, the bustling town of La Fortuna. We got a car service from the airport and Alamo actually delivered the rental car to us the next day. Such a great service—thank you Judah for recommending.
We will definitely return!!!
Impeccable grounds, nature is all around you. Accommodations are great as is the host. Location is close to all the Arenal attractions yet the property has a wonderful off the beaten path feel. Springs Resort right around the corner if you want to take advantage of all they have to offer.
