Superb museum. Building itself is spectacular. Couldn't believe that it was built in the 50's. The furniture display on the top floor was simply stunning.

The museum is a bautiful building in itself. The subject matters are handled really well. I loveds looking at all the beautiful china and furniture. It was easy to get around even though it was crowded and had clean facilities and a great shop.

Unfortunately only had limited time to spend here, so headed upstairs to learn more about my interest, the minority tribes of China. There was a great display of the various
costumes, etc. Much of the information is also in English. This Museum is really a credit to the city and to the Chinese people, A "must go" to place to learn more about this diverse country and its history.

We were also lucky to see a collection of Old Masters from the Tate Museum in London while we visited the museum. The museum is very clean and modern inside and well laid out with large galleries on 3 floors featuring different aspects of period Chinese life eg. sculpture, script, money, costume & dress, utility & ceremonial pieces and some magnificent scrolls and carvings dating back to the very early periods of Chinese culture. I was disappointed that the furniture gallery was closed because this was of particular interest to me. Good spot to buy some lovely souvenirs, pertaining to Chinese history. Note: you do have to go through security to enter so entry can take a while as you wait in queue - under a shade canopy. You can take bottled water in but you have to drink some of the water in front of officials before you enter. I would love to revisit as we did not allow enough time to thoroughly view all the exhibits. Allow approx. 2 hours, if you are one to read the explanatory plaques allow longer.

Love this Chinese museum and especially appreciate that it has free entrance for everyone! The museum is pretty huge with different sections. Will most problem. Will at least required half a day or more to slowly enjoy and view the displays slowly.
