We first obtained free parking passes for spaces just at the foot of the Capitol from Montgomery Information Center in the train station. We had the number one spot. Free for the day!

We were greeted at the Capitol door by a friendly lady who turned out to be from our area of the South and a genealogist who later helped us research a possible family connection.

The Capitol is gorgeous inside and out. It is in pristine condition. The architecture amazing. The exhibits and portraits as well as beautiful dome murals told the story of Alabama.

The employees we encountered on our self guided tour were so friendly and nice.

The visit across from the Capitol to the Alabama Archives World War 1
and History of Alabama exhibits was excellent. Again, we were welcomed by such a friendly helpful lady at the admissions.

Alabama has its best foot forward!

So much history happened here and we wanted to learn more about it. The guided tour is free and there is an hour allotted. Our tour guide spent about half of the time in playful banter, chatting and talking about himself. I would have liked to learn more about the history.

I visited the Alabama State Capitol as part of a field trip group. The Capitol is very beautiful and quite large. There is so much history inside and outside of this building. The tour guide did a good job of discussing its history. Yet, I wish we had been able to look around more. We just went from room to room as she spoke. I would have appreciated an unguided tour more so. However, we were part of a field trip group as I stated. In the basement, they have a large gift shop with a great selection of items at decent prices. Of course, admission is free and definitely worth your time.

If you get a chance, take the guided tour. They are wonderful and explain everything. We ended up doing a self-guided tour this time. It’s a beautiful building. We especially enjoy the murals and ceiling in the rotunda. The floating spiral stairs are really nice too.
