We stopped here on a whim and were surprised. The staff was very informative. Wish we had come during the migration season so we could see the birds. Will be back.

Well presented ; carefully maintained ; presents a diversity of water fowl ...ducks , geese , cranes , herons , egrets , etc.

Terrific viewing opportunities for the visitors , a small wildlife museum beyond water fowl , theater presentation of wildlife movies , knowledgeable staff for your questions !

For those who don't want to or can't get outside to see birds, Wheeler has an indoor viewing area (with AC!) that lets you watch the birds as they wander around a portion of the lake. It was very interesting to see some birds that I was unable to find just wandering around outside. This Refuge is very nice and unique as it has the Tn River going thru the Refuge. Lots of wildlife in the area and plenty of hiking to be found here!

Best during the Crane Festival in Januaray. You do not need to bring binoculars, they have them. 360 panoramic view of Cranes, ducks, geese(?)
