In search of the best place to stay for a day, a week, or a month in Panama ... try Bocas Condos.

The condos are roomy by Bocas standards and have all the essentials and more. The highlight of a Bocas Condo, other than the manager, is the kitchen. Especially if you're staying a week or more. You'll save money and eat healthier if you prep some of your meals at "home."

The kitchen is large enough for two to move around without upsetting the relationship. Well stocked with pots, pans, glasses, cups, bowls, dishes, and utensils. The small appliances vary by unit. The basics - toaster and microwave - are in the unit or can be found. If there's something you need just let Frida know. Every condo has a small refrigerator and propane stove.

(If you're not familiar with propane cooking, be aware that it's almost 2-1/2 times hotter than natural gas. One cubic foot of propane = 2,516 BTUs compared to one cubic foot of natural gas = 1,030 BTUs.)

The "essentials" include comfy beds, ceiling fan, air conditioning, and indoor plumbing. During my stay in March/April I used the air very few times. The ceiling fan was good enough.

Location was critical to me. Bocas Condos is close to a print shop, a hardware store, restaurants, markets, a notary, water taxi docks, real estate offices, stationary shops, water filling stations ($0.25/gallon), and, of course, the airport. I didn't need a car and never bothered with a taxi (even though they are cheap and omnipresent).

James and Frida run Bocas Condos.

James is often available to offer advice ranging from real estate development to the enigmatic Panamanian mindset.

But Frida is the force-of-nature at Bocas Condos. Whatever you need while there, see Frida. She might even get into your business a bit. Don't be offended. It's her nature to try to help.

At one point in my Bocas business I became frustrated with my inability to get things done. James explained that it wasn't a language problem, it was a cultural mindset separation. I foolishly continued to try to make things work from an "American" mindset, and continued to get frustrated. Frida stepped in and straightened me...er, the situation...out!

Frida is also in charge of the housekeeping staff, both of them. She is la jefa, trainer/teacher, mentor, and coach. I suspect she guides her staff with a firm hand and a stern look. But, I've talked to her and she really cares about them. She's a good jefa.

Volumes could be written, and have been written, about the things to do in Bocas del Toro. But, ask Frida or James for recommendations. They love Bocas and generously shares their favorite adventures.

Stay a week or too, or longer!, at Bocas Condos. You won't want to leave. You'll want to come back!

I rented a studio apartment for two weeks and everything was wonderful. Daily maid service, plenty of hot water, TV, free Wi-Fi, and the entire property is very secure with locking gate and cameras all over. Only two blocks to the main avenue through town, and three blocks to all the restaurants over the water. I highly recommend this as a safe and clean place to stay for a couple of days, a couple of weeks, or even longer!

After flying in from Panama city, we walked to the condos easily from the tiny airport and was greeted by Joe who was very informative and helpful. We were shown to our condo which was brilliant. Spacious, clean and the lady who showed us how everything worked was very accommodating. Hot water, air con, Wifi and even a spare room - great. The condos have their own code to get in and the gate at the front is only accessible with the access card you are given upon check-in so very secure.
We even managed to get our laundry done - a huge bag for $5!
This place totally made our Bocas del Toro & Isla Colon experience complete - thanks guys! Can't recommend you enough.

Recommended thru Habla Ya where we were studying Spanish. Good location and has the necessities. But the space needs a good cleaning, better bedding and the sofa bed had a poor mattress, quite worn and not very clean. These aspects have this place the poor rating
