“Beautiful gardens and Villa”
Reviewed 8 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

Upon arrival at the Villa, the gardens and external buildings of the villa are absolutely magnificent, the gardens are green and lush with many mature plants and trees, including banana trees, avacadoes, mangoes, star fruit and jack fruit. There is a cute little driveway up to the villa, which is placed behind a picturesque hotel used for weddings. There was a large covered section to sit outside and the views across the gardens were idyllic, and very much enjoyed. Our children enjoyed the little pond in front of the villa. We even saw a monitor lizard, plus other wildlife native to Sri Lanka.
Inside, on the ground floor, there is a large open space with a sitting room and TV (we didn't use the TV) a kitchen and dining area. There are 3 good sized bedrooms with there own ensuite shower rooms. All very attractive but very basic. Bedrooms had a bed with a mosquito net (only two of the rooms) a bedside cabinet and a clothes rack. There is additional space where two more single beds were placed, if required. An additional toilet and shower room is just off the sitting room. We found the kitchen very basic, but this didn't bother us as we ate out most of the time. We villa had wifi.
We understood that we were the first party that rented this property, and we also booked last minute due to our former accommodation cancelling on us. So we were extremely grateful that we had found a nice property and our hosts could not have been more accommodating and hospitable. However a few items could have been improved upon, the power was very intermittent and on a daily basis we had to set the fuse, the showers were not adequate, they were cool and powerless, and most of the time a dribble. There were several evenings where we had no power and no water at all. This added to our experience of Sri Lanka, so we were not bothered but future guests might find this annoying, unless fixed.
There is only air conditioning in two of the bedrooms and as powered by electricity, it only worked when we had power. There was also a water leak in our bathroom which meant that the floor was permanently covered in 1cm of water, I'm sure this is easy to fix though.
Our hosts could not have done anymore for us, they went out of our way to ensure we had a good visit, which we did, despite the few problems listed above. Whatever we asked for they provided immediately, and even the owner himself changed our sheets and towels after we asked for this. The owner also has a hotel complex 1km down the road and we enjoyed spending many days there, in the restaurant and on the lake and by the pool.
I would recommend this property and with a few little changes it will be outstanding, and a perfect place to stay.

Thank you very much for your so kind review ! It's useful also : problems with water were now all repaired, all the faucets changed as well as the pipes. You were indeed the first ones to book the villa, that was closed for several years before I arrived. The problems of electricity were also repaired (moreover, during your stay, the big car accident you saw near the villa, cut power in the whole district for several days...) For those who read the review, one precision is important : the traditonnal weddings (only once or twice a month) celebrated near the villa are always and ONLY lunches, allways ending around 3 or 4 PM : there are no weddings on evenings. It was great to welcome you, come back when you want :) Cheers, T.
