We booked this hotel with booking.com for $110 US/night for a standard room. When we arrived we were charged $50 US/night and we are staying 2 nights. I’ve never stayed in a hotel where 2 adults are charged per person.

They allow you to keep your bags stored before check-in and same for check-out. The staff is friendly. The view from the hotel window (fourth floor) was nice. We walked to the hotel from the train station and it was maybe 5 minutes, but almost uphill. Everything is in very close walking distance.

Day196 of our 7month 6continent Around the World Trip we were pleased with the Taypikala Hotel. It is at the top of the climb along the river to the supposedly “Hot” (actually luke warm) Springs. The room (#405) was a corner so we had a great view. There was no air conditioning, but the sun dropped behind the high mountains, things cooled off nicely for sleeping in June. The employees were very helpful, telling us of two great places to eat: Tree House and the Indio Feliz. Breakfast was ok.

Only bad part was the very slooooooow internet.

We stayed two nights. The first night to acclimate and the second to rest after Machu Picchu.

There is a two (2) hour laundry open early to late only 30 meters from the hotel.

I would stay there again.

We then took the train back to the JW Marriott in Cusco.

This hotel was part of our tour so we didn’t have to book it or pay for it individually so I can’t comment on the price. It was one of our favorite hotels on our trip. It was very clean and the water was hot. The only downside is it is a long walk up when you get off the bus, but there are beautiful carvings you can see along the way. Breakfast was also good. Great coffee.

We stayed here for 2 nights while we explored Machu Picchu. Aguas Calientes itself was ok- not an awful lot to do and quite expensive. This hotel was at the top of a steep hill (I’d recommend walking up to it by the river rather than through the restaurants or you’ll be hounded by people wanting you to eat in their restaurant).
The staff at the hotel were friendly and welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable. We stayed in a king size room over looking the mountains with a jacuzzi bath. I’d definitely recommend booking this if you can afford to pay a little extra. The location of the hotel is good as you’re more likely to get a better night sleep away from the noise of the town (especially if you are up early like we were). We didn’t eat breakfast but it starts early which is useful if you want to eat before you head to Machu Picchu. Overall, I would recommend this hotel.

It's a straight up walk from the train station to this hotel, but it's worth it. The view from our room was utterly fantastic. Lots of restaurants in the area.

We arrived with a tour group and the checkin and checkout process was impressively efficient. The rooms are comfortable. Did I mention the view?
