We visited this beautiful little pagoda as part of a day-tour around Ninh Binh. For such a famous spot it was surprisingly quiet, so we took a peaceful walk around the temple grounds and took the stairs up through the cave. Really pretty place to take photos at, do not miss.

Free entry. Just don't park a bike or moped with the people by the entrance. No need.

Generally poor signposts so just keep going up and through the caves.

Nice pagoda. 1-2 hours to see it all. Once you leave the pagoda itself go to the right and up over the hill. Great view.

This place is not spectacular in any manner. The views are only very mediocre compared to many many other places around Tam COC. The temple is very mediocre, so I am confused as to why this is rated so high. It's a easy few kilometer ride from town so if this was the first place you were to see in your vacation here in Ninh Binh then maybe you would rank it high but if it's one of the last places, you rank it as a 2.

It’s beautifully scattered along the mountains and the view are spectacular. The paths are easy and filled with fresh air.

This was one of the best things we did in the Ninh Binh area. While Tam Coc was clogged with day-tripping tourists from Hanoi, all jostling to climb aboard the boats in the center of town, Bich Dong was relatively peaceful and the temple was well integrated into the area's natural beauty. The temple is set into the mountainside in three levels and you'll need to climb some fairly steep stairs to reach the top. Perhaps not the best attraction for those with mobility issues. It's not the most ornate or colorful temple you'll ever seen, but that's really the point - the surrounding mountains provide the beauty.

It's only a fifteen minute bicycle ride from Tam Coc, so there's really no reason not to visit during your stay there. Walking through the three levels of the temple won't take up more than an hour of your time, but you could spend all day cycling through the nearby rice fields.

One thing to note: if you come by bicycle or motorbike you will be directed to a covered parking area. If you leave your bike here, you'll be charged somewhere between 5,000 and 50,000 dong. Instead, grab a coffee at one of the cafes that are 100 meters or so up the road. Leave your bike here and avoid the parking fee. If anyone tries to charge you an entry fee to the pagoda, it's just a local trying to scam you. This is a religious site and there is no fee to enter. However, as a sign of respect, you should cover your knees and shoulders as you would at any other temple in Southeast Asia. It's not required, but it would show some cultural sensitivity.
