Lovely villa but everything else very basic, air con would only work one room at a time, electricity on off all day, road up to villa was awful so if travelling with kids you were stuck, main beach very very dirty, great spot for backpackers but less so travellers seeking a bit more

I booked the penthouse for 6 nights, as a quiet place to relax after two weeks of intense travelling in the northern regions of Thailand. We wanted a comfortable spot away from the noisy beaches, yet close to a diving school and some good restaurants. Well, we got it all. Very nice luxurious penthouse, located in the middle of coconut trees. Two modern bedrooms, one for us and one for the two youngest, and our third son slept in the library (good collection of books and movies btw). Two nice bathrooms. Beautiful big open living space with well equipped kitchen, not that we cooked anything, just prepared breakfast. Very modern tv and sound system. We had some connection problems with wifi at first but our host (and owner) Alan quickly sorted it out. He also took us to a shop to rent motorbikes, and our sons loved to ride them! But be careful: it's really really steep to drive uphill, our sons got in trouble at their first ride! Alan gave plenty of good tips, restaurants, diving club, rock climbing (they have their own rock in the garden!)....One more remark: be on time on Samui to catch the ferry to Koh Tao, last boat leaves at 1:30pm. We missed this one and had to spent one night on Samui (got another good tip from Alan for a decent hotel), really a lost night, better had spended it at the wonderful Star Villa! Thanks Alan and Heidi for the great stay at your place!
