To get to the Cape Coast Castle from Accra, make sure you clear your calendar for the day as it is a different region from Accra and 3 hours one-way. You would also want to hire a car that will take you there and wait for you and bring you back. Most times, the hotel or apartment you stay can get a car-hire for you and the ride will cost you up to 500 cedis. We got a car hire operated by a very nice dude called Kojo. He was just awesome.
This Cape Coast Castle is also known as the Cape Coast Forte from where slaves were transported out of Africa. It is one of those places that have the 'Door of no return' which signifies the departure point for slaves in that period. The location has a museum showing relics of the slave trade era; along with other very interesting pictures, sculptures, and very heart-breaking images of what happened in the days of old.
A trip to this place will sober you up real quick assuming you have been excited all day. Me and my friends went to the Cape Coast Castle after visiting the Kakum National Park and conquering the canopy walk...so you can imagine how much adrenaline we had pumped up inside, only to be knocked flat by the sad stories at the Cape Coast Castle.
I recommend a visit to this place just to learn a bit more of the slavery in the past and to stand where many lives were snatched, violated, traded and lost.
