This theatre is an American classic! It's truly like stepping back in time. The staff have done a wonderful job restoring this historic building while staying true to its original vibe. They also work closely with the film community to bring relevant films and events that people care about to the community! Bravo!

If you are visiting Birmingham or live here, you have to visit the Alabama Theater at least once. It is gorgeous inside and reminiscent of a time when the theater was an experience and not just a causal weekend activity. I have been to concerts, movies and even a wedding there and it doesn't disappoint. Be sure to go at Christmas time to watch your favorite holiday movies, as the organist leads everyone in several carols before the movies! The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the bathroom situation is horrible (since it is old) and the drinks are extremely overpriced (even the non-alcoholic ones), although it really isn't any different than any other concert venue.

This place has an amazing history. It was built back in the 1920's. Our daughters dance recitals are always held here and during the holidays they always have Christmas movies playing here. You can get tons of information off of their website also! Outside is a great place for a good photo opp.

However this theater has more floors or balconies to see the movie, I saw "White Christmas" in July. The staff was friendly and sold snacks and merchandise. They had to check my backpack for security's sake! Theater still looks new even if it was built close to 90 yrs ago, beautiful gold architecture and light fixtures along with the red accents on the curtains and seats. OThers like me will remember their childhood, Did not see an elevator of any kind to help those with impairment disabilities

Originally built as a vaudeville theater in 1927, The Alabama Theater has a rich and interesting history. Occasionally, backstage tours are available outlining the history of the location which is a fascinating tour.

The Alabama has undergone extensive renovations to return it to its original glory, and it is truly gorgeous. We especially love it at Christmas when it is beautifully decorated for the season.

In addition to the venue itself, The Alabama offers a variety of entertainment options. They show vintage films throughout the year, particularly in the summer when they have the summer film series. I love watching classic films such as Casablanca, Rocky Horror and The Birds at the theater. At Christmas, they show classic Christmas movies like White Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street. They also have a children's matinee that includes 3 short films which vary from year to year but usually includes How the Grinch Stole Christmas (cartoon version). My niece and nephew always look forward to that.

Besides movies, the theater also hosts concerts, operas and other live events. Their website includes a calendar of events. The venue can also be rented for weddings, etc.

Admission is very reasonable and so are the prices at the concession stand. The concession stand offers wine and beer.

If you ever have the opportunity to go, I highly recommend The Alabama Theater.
