Hi. The day before yesterday we came back from our Uyuni tour. It was amazingly great.
Our driver was Baymer. Or Beemer: don't know how to say this. It was a driver NOT a guide this is not what we asked for at the Lithium office. They assured us we were getting a guide and not just a driver.
He was quiet most of the time. Didn't say much. Stopped at the stops. "Here are rocks. You have 10 minutes for pictures. Vamos." is what he said for example.
On the last day he was more happy. But we found out that was because he was drinking. Before and while the tour. We could smell the alcohol.
He was also drinking beer with another guide on the salt flats and just throwing the can of beer on the flats. Where is the respect for nature?
This felt very unsafe: in a car with someone who is under the influence of alcohol. What can we do?
Besides that it was great: but that's mostly the nature speaking for itself. It's a beautiful little peace of earth. Exceptional.
But our 'guide' didn't explain anything really. We don't even know why the salt flats are there for example.
He told us this was the first time working for Lithium. Lithium told us otherwise: only people were working for the company with many many years of experience with the company.
Accomodation, food and the other things were good! Sure! Our driver was taking good care of us during breakfast/lunch/dinner.
So we are happy and disappointed at the same time.
Lithium insisted/asked several times to write a review. Here it is.
We realize you'll have to be lucky with your guide. Clearly we weren't. The things we were afraid for happened, eventough Lithium told us not to worry: you will get an English speaking guide. Not just a driver.
